On Monday night September 20th 2010 the planet Jupiter will be at its closest approach to earth for the next 12 years, (2022) it will still be 368 million mile away so you don’t have to worry about any fender benders.

Looking to the East South East any time around 9PM at around 30 degrees above the horizon, it should be very visible for the next week or two.

It can be viewed with the naked eye without binoculars or a telescope but it would be nice to have one or the other, with a good telescope you should be able to view the spot or the moons around Jupiter.
