LAS VEGAS (AP) -Amir Khan will defend his WBA 140-pound title on Dec. 11 in the British champion's debut in Las Vegas.

Golden Boy Promotions formally announced Thursday that Khan will meet Argentina's Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Khan won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics and has evolved into a star, claiming a world title with a victory over Andreas Kotelnik last year. He defended his belt in New York last May, stopping Paulie Malignaggi in the 11th round.

Khan has been eager to fight in boxing's capital city for several years, hoping to raise his international profile.

He agreed to what could be a difficult fight against Maidana, who has won four straight fights since losing a split decision to Kotelnik last year.

That will be a good one, I take Maidana on the later rounds by ko. That negative fight with Kotelnik could 've gone either way.

I agree fibroso this will be a great fight. What I like of maidana is that he will stand and slug it out. This fight will end in a ko either way.I am a fan of both maidana and khan. Both are good for boxing.

Yup--I agree with both of you that it should prove to be a great fight. I`m going with Maidana late as well. I have to admire both of them for not passing off on each other and fighting someone just to pad their record (listening PBF?). I`ve said it before that I don`t think Khan is "D" ready yet for the likes of Maidana, regardless I cheer him on cause he`s a gamer. Game on.

Marcos Maidana has no desire to make it a boxing match when he faces WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan on December 11 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. He is coming to the ring with one goal in mind, to win the contest by knockout. He doesn't think much of Khan's chin and expects a single punch to close the show.

"I don't really think about plan B at the moment," Maidana told Morning Star. "I am going to fight the way I know which is going forward and try to knock him out. I don't think Amir Khan has the punch to stop me and I think I can take him out with just one punch."

Maidana never watched Khan's one minute destruction at the hands of Briedis Prescott. He saw the recent win over Paulie Malignaggi and there certain aspects of the fight that gave the Argentine puncher more confidence to win by knockout.

"I didn't even really watch the knockout," he admits. "I just watched a few rounds of his fight with (Paulie) Malignaggi, but the most important thing to me is I know myself."

The argentine is gone try to ko Khan from the first round till the end. I think he's got the punch and the stamina to do it. He's on a winning streak.
