I use Linux, Ubuntu distro. It's free forever and the whole OS is an antivirus. You can get it here:

remember it is only as good as it costs . minimal virus coverage is all your going to get for free . spend the money on a good anti virus like kaspersky and get what you pay for .

Rumor……

Most computer viruses (and other mean nasty things that eat your PC) now days are done by companies that you have to pay to get the anti-virus service updates to get rid of, that way they stay in business, and you keep paying and paying and paying……

Just a rumor…

Now I have to go and re-enforce my hardware firewall.....And switch to my above black VPN.....

Ubuntu is a Linux operating system distribution. It is a complete operating system just as good if not better than Windows and of the same quality as the Apple operating systems. It is completely free as well as all of the software that goes with it. Because it is based on Linux which is a derivative of Unix, it is immune to viruses, spyware and all the malware that's out there. I run this operating system on all my computers. You can even install it on the same hard drive as Windows either in a separate partition or within Windows itself.
It takes some dedication on the part of the user to get familiar with it.

There are two ways to get Ubuntu. You can download the LIVE CD version and then burn the iso to a cd or to a usb drive. It's explained here:
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/desktop/get-ubuntu/download
or you can download the WUBI version and install it inside Windows. Go here for WUBI:
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/windows-installer, With the LIVE CD it is possible to try Ubuntu without installing it.first.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no antivirus program bundled with Ubuntu, and one really isn't needed with a Linux based OS.

Ubuntu is a Linux operating system and does not need an anti-virus program. If you decide to use Ubuntu, or some other Linux distribution, you will never need an anti-virus program. There just isn't any malware written to attack Linux operating systems. and there probably never will be. Windows is too easy a target. Once you start using Linux and begin to feel comfortable with it, you may switch to it as your main system. Many people have.

The only anti-virus program that comes with Ubuntu is ClamAv which is used on Linux based mail servers to scan e-mails and attachments sent in Windows. You won't need it for Linux.

You may wish to check out this link to see what other Linux distributions are available: http://www.satfix.net/showthread.php?t=32212

Another advantage of having a Linux Live CD is that if your Windows system screws up you can rescue it with the Live CD. You can also make an iso image of the Windows install with PartImage. Another completely free Linux app.

I'm using Avast for free!!! Came free and is free for home users. Just d/l it and then register, they will send you the registration number and remind you when you have to reregister.

Sorry if I've hijacked. Haven't read this thread from the start.

Thanks for the link which is very helpful, i already made a SystemRescueCD and Booting up properly from this CD.

Now my aim is to bring back my Windows XP system to life like EARLIEAR POINT. For example I Install fresh Copy of WinXP on June-01-2010 then my system get infected by virus on Oct-01-2010 aftre this more worst. So i like to know is this RescuCD can help me to bring back my WinXP system to EARLIEAR POINT on June-01-2010 or not. Because if i bring back my system on this date then all viruses and what ever came after June-01-2010 is gone and my system is clean from all viruses.

I try to bring back to EARLIEAR POINT in WinXP, system restore, but not get success. So i want to use Live CD to do this, please let me know is this thing possible or not.

I am still looking to see how to bring system to earlier point in the link above, but not get it.

Thanks

IMHO, unless you know what virus you have and what you need to remove- it's easier to save your data and re-install windows clean. Restoring windows more often than not just re-installs the virus because they have a nasty habit or infecting the restore lol'ol

As far as linux, it's better to either use the live cd or dual boot to get familiar with it before jumping in with both feet. Things are different and there is a learning curve involved. If you would like to make installing windows easier, get nlite and make the install automated.

The cracked/hacked versions of anti-virus are circulated through the internet- just be sure to have anti-virus before looking to download cracked versions lol'ol

I agree with wildman. System restore won't get rid of that virus. It could even be a root kit which an anti-virus may not detect. Backup your data. Re-install Windows. If you want to dual boot with a Linus Distro, install it after Windows is installed. Much easrier that way.

My main job is virus removal at computer shop. Now best way to remove virus is: remove hard drive and connect to another computer with spyware/malware remove programs and an antivirus program..run as many as you have as each one finds different infections. Best free removal is Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware(my opinion). Go to AVG website and dl the free boot cd or USB file and make a disk...set bios to boot from it and it will detect netcard and do an update...it will scan computer in raw dos mode(takes a while) it will remove any root and boot virus's. Start computer in safe mode with networking and run Malwarebytes. Good free antivirus is Cloud by Panda. There is usually not a need to format from a virus...but ocassionally it has to happen after removing virus and system is unstable although repairs can usually be made. Yes bleeping computer has very good info. Good luck

The System Rescue CD will not restore Windows to an earlier point. Viruses often lodge themselves in the System Volume Information folder. This is a hidden folder which contain the restore points that the System Restore program uses. By default, you cannot see or gain access to this folder unless you know how. What you can do is scan the hard drive with Clam AV. This is the anti-virus program on the System Rescue CD. Boot from this CD. You will still have internet access using the CD. Start Firefox web browser, open Bookmarks, and select the System Rescue CD web site. There is documentation there on how to use Clam AV. You will have to get used to using Terminal which is the CLI.. Command Line Interface. When the CD boots up, choose to go directly to the graphical environment (GUI).
You will have to MOUNT the partition on your hard drive that has Windows on it. Probably your hard drive is all one big partition anyway. Mounting is a process where you gain access to all the files on the hard drive without starting the operating system. This is a common technique used in Unix based operating systems. Clam AV may not get rid of any virus but it may identify what or where these viruses are. If you are a novice computer user, or only used to using Windows, you may find this approach using a Linux based CD confusing and frustrating. I know I was at first but I stuck with it.
If you decide to try the above and need additional assistance just post here.
