The fight was a farewell bout for Penalosa. He ends his 21-year boxing career on a winning note. Much of the proceeds from the event will go to injured Filipino boxer Z Gorres. Penalosa had lost his last two bouts as he entered the ring for this contest. He lost a controversial split decision in February to Eric Morel and in April 2009 he was stopped for the first time by current WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez.
