Didnt know until today but its moving from 43w to 81w.Not sure what it will do there as its very old and doesnt have many TP's but maybe just a place holder.OR maybe freedbs.org bought it lol

I doubt they could afford to buy it,but they could be leasing it.That's quite a distance to move it.There must be a reason. Now I'm getting excited.Watch the speculation fly now.Does anyone know it's current capabilities??Would/could it serve the purpose?

Maybe all those meetings with Rays uncle finally drove him up the wall and he gave them their college fund so they would quit bugging him...? Im just saying...

Well, if there's 10 channels per tp- it would mean a good start to some tv lol'ol But what baffles me is: I understood the sats had a limited amount of fuel to last its' lifetime, so wouldn't moving a sat that far be a suicide mission? Guess the sat moving will bring a lot of attention to the freedbs idea- even if it's unrelated lol'ol

Great info but could create tight quarters up there with Nimiq 4 at 82w and Amc 9 at 83w. Although each tp has the capacity to carry over 10 channels, most fta sats in this part of the world never get that many, with some exceptions.

Yes, but Intelsat 3R is not from this part of the world. As for crowding, they seem to park those birds one on top of the other. (e.g. Echostar 3,6,12,& 15 @ 61.5W or Nilesat 101,102,201,& Atlantic Bird 4A all at 7.0W).:innocent:

Very true Will. When I lived in Europe they had at least 6 sats at 2 sat locations at 13E and 19.2E- Hotbird and Astra sats.

LANGSAT shows Intelsat 3R at 64.5°W now and moving at 0.44 a day so it will be in possession soon .

would be nice for free dbs to announce something along these terms.....I am just curious as to what kind of ku band channels are already there?

Satbeams shows that the 3R has already passed its life expectancy and that it has zero (0) channels assigned and all old channels have been "retired".

Virtually no ku band channels were there the last time I scanned it about a week ago. On the c band side almost 200 channels would scan in but only about 5-10 open, mostly all encrypted in powervu.

As Bowhunters has pointed out Intesat 3R is a spent out Sat . Why would they move it to 81w just to replace their Sat Galaxy 9 that was deorbited from 81w unless they expect more life out of 3R

Intelsat 3R is now at 66.0 W it will be interesting to see what they do with it when they get it into the 81.0 W slot and replace the Galaxy 9 sat. That should be in NOVEMBER when it is in position at 81.0 W.

The timing is right. An end-of-life sat could be an inexpensive way to begin broadcasting from.It must still have plenty of fuel for a deorbit.

could be they have more life left in the Sat than originally projected....:noidea:

Going by it's life expectancy, I would guess it's probably being moved to a graveyard orbit. Normally you would see something in advance if there was going to be a new slot for an active sat. Just guessing though.

It's being moved to 81W, why??? I dont know, there is no news on this move.

FYI:

A graveyard orbit is 200 to 300 Km higher up from where the satellite is currently orbiting now, they wouldn't move it around the Clark belt to a disposal orbit unless there was an absolute need to do so, there is another satellite that is moving through the belt and that is Galaxy 15 and it is out of contact with the ground and out of control.

As Terryl says no one knows why. They only move dieing sats to other locations for 2 things.Use it as a place holder (use lose your license if it vacant to long) or to recommission it.Expressvue did this when 91w first started I believe and so did dik at 119 by leasing a deorbited (space junk pile) sat from Dave and moving it to 119 to use till new sat was built.Everything is plausible right now but as for dbs doing this I dont think so.I said it as a joke only
