By William Mackay:

WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) is still dreaming of fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr., despite having the toughest opponent of his career Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) facing him and prepared to knock him out on December 11th. In the latest boxing news, Khan, speaking with the Manchester Evening News, says “I want to bring the big fights back this country [England]. The Floyd Mayweather fight would be one of those…The Mayweather fight could definitely happen in England.” I’ll believe that when I see it.

Mayweather, if he ever does fight Khan, probably won’t want to go and fight in his country and risk losing a hometown decision. But you have to wonder what kind of time line Khan’s promoters Golden Boy Promotions has for him to be facing Mayweather. Would it come after the Maidana fight? You have to figure that with the risk that fighters like Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander would pose to Khan, that Golden Boy will try and push for the Mayweather-Khan fight immediately rather than wait for Khan to take on the winner of the Alexander-Bradley bout. Those two fighters would have an excellent chance at beating Khan, and in beating him, it would ruin all the dreams of Khan fighting Mayweather.

I can see Mayweather being open to fighting Khan, because he would have less to fear from him compared to Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather might jump at the chance of making big money the easy way by knocking off Khan before Bradley or Alexander does it first. However, it’s going to take a minor miracle for Khan to escape the Maidana fight without getting knocked out, because Maidana hits very hard and he’s going to be head hunting in a big way to try and knock Khan out. He knows that Khan is vulnerable to hard shots, and he’s going to be hitting him as hard as he can with every punch.

Khans says “After the [Breidis] Prescott fight, I changed everything. I got with the best trainer [Freddie Roach] in the world and you can see how my style and body shape have changed over the past two years. And I can still get better.” Khan has done well since being knocked out by Prescott, but he’s done well against fighters with zero power that have been matched against him by his promoters. Khan hasn’t been put in with any big punchers, so it gives the impression that he’s improved. However, it may just be the case he looks improved because he’s fighting guys with zero power.

Khan seems to be flapping his yap a lot as of late about who HE wants to fight in his future-------I still am not sold on the kid beating Maidana. Maybe a little advice for King Khan may be to look to his present before dictating his future. JMO

Coming....ops....sorry....COUNTING his chickens again, huh?

Bro...we are on opposite sides on this one. Khan is ready and he will dispose of Maidana. I liken Maidana with Hatton, bulldozing his way against his opponents with haymakers and bombs, overwhelming and intimidating them to submission. But Khan is sleek. He will evade and counter with quick combinations that will frustrate Marcos and eventually catch him with an uppercut or a solid body punch.

FINALLY..............we can disagree !!! Khan is anything but sleek----he`s smooth operator when on the offensive side of the coin but when put in a defensive mode after being rocked a bit he looks clumsy and confused looking for his offense to be his defense if you get my drift-----we both know it doesn`t work that way.
When in control Khan indeed looks sleek and ready to go-----but the other side of the coin needs work if he`s to last in this business.

Hmmmm...ok...discussion required here. First, let us look at his boxing history.

As an amateur, he is highly decorated. Won gold medal in the 2003 junior olympics; he fought 5 times in 7 days, he fought in South Korea and won the junior lightweight title in 2004 (bet you did not know that); lost the gold medal to Cuban Mario Kindelan (won silver) at the Athens Olympics - but he avenged that lost for his final fight as an amateur in 2005. He has a KO % of 70.83 (23-1 with 17 KO) as a professional at a very young age of 23.

Did you know that he beat VICTOR ORTIZ as an amateur? (On the other hand, Victor knocked down Maidana 3 times in the first two rounds last year but got over-confident and careless and Maidana won by TKO in the 6th.)

Did you know that when he fought Willie Limond for the Commonwealth lightweight Title that he was knocked down in the 6th round, appeared hurt, got up, and then broke Limond's jaw and nose to win the fight in the 8th round?

Khan beat Kotelnik; Maidana lost to Kotelnik.

On record, Maidana's 90% KO percentage "looks frightening". That is why they (including FIBROSO) likes the Argentinian.

I like Khan because of his excellent boxing skills, his speed, technique, and a "subtle" and deceiving KO power.

What say you, Amigo?
