Bleacher Report put together a slide show raising the issue that PACQUIAO will not go the same way as LESNAR last Saturday.
Just to briefly summarize and comment on the 10 reasons why the shocking defeat of Brock Lesnar last Saturday will not happen on November 13:
1) The upset loss of Lesnar sends a message into the sports world that no one is invincible - not even the PACMAN. "Lack of focus" in training has worried Freddie Roach as Manny had been pre-occupied with Congress and other distractions. BR believes that the loss last Saturday is a "wake-up" call and that the Pacquiao Team will in the next three weeks will intensify the training session and get him in great shape for Nov 13.
2) BR sees Lesnar as arrogant and cocky. In contrast, Manny is known to be the opposite; that "there is no ounce of arrogance in him"; and that while he is confident, he remains very down to earth and has worked hard to be where he is.
3) MMA is a brutal sport where there is no standing 8 count. A fighter absorbing a hard punch could not kneel and get a few seconds to recover.
4) Rounds in Boxing are for three minutes with a 1 minute break, giving combatants more time to recoup, regroup, and discuss strategies with coaches.
5) Brock Lesnar is basically "inexperienced" having been in the sport for only three years; Manny has been around for more than 15 years with great ability to counter.
6) Manny is not fighting for Manny; he is fighting for 99 million people in his country. Whenever he steps into the ring, everything in the Philippines including police and criminals take a break because they are all glued to their TV sets. That is quite a inspiration for the boxer turned politician.
7) Many believe that Manny wants to cement his legacy in boxing by beating Floyd Mayweather. Therefore, losing to Margarito is not an option.
8) Apparently, after winning against Dela Hoya in 2008, Manny told Roach that he wants Margarito next. It is then safe to assume that he and Roach have gone over Margarito's fights to learn everything about beating him.
9) Cain Velasquez is 9-0, never having tasted defeat. Margarito has had six losses. Odds are it is easier to take on someone who has suffered defeat than someone (like Cain) who knows nothing about losing. Meanwhile, Lesnar has also tasted defeat (against Frank Mir in 2008).
10) (With tongue-in-cheek) BR feels that Lesnar could have improved his chances had he groomed and shaved himself before the fight. But BR thinks that whether or not Manny shaves off his beard or moustache, it could not distract him from his mission of defeating Margarito.
There you have it! Some of these "reasons" are convoluted and funny. I personally feel that Manny's work ethics, physical attributes, and skills are his overwhelming assets. He carries with him a huge pride of having raised the hopes and aspirations of his people who not only follow him in the ring but elected him into office. He takes that responsibility to heart. He also has a strong faith and believes in divine intervention. All of these are "POSITIVE MOTIVATORS".
Margarito, on the other hand, has too many obstacles to overcome - the biggest one is a fall from grace with his people. The stigma of being accused of wrongdoing remains with him. The fact that he stands to "GAIN $3 to $7 million for this fight, in spite of his suspension will bring "guilt" into his conscience. He would feel "undeserving" of such gift - from Manny Pacquiao.
Unfortunately, he comes into the fight not with "positive motivation" but rather with "negative motivators". Psychologically, it is human nature that you do not "bite the hand that feeds you."
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Margarito would fold and give the fight away. He would consciously bring on his best effort but the psychological and subliminal disadvantage would limit his ability to "go for the kill". In fact, it would be the opposite. He would be a prey waiting to be subdued by a predator.
