Ok i am useing rg59 for the coax inside the house for my antenna. Will it make a difference if I convert it to rg6? Will it make a difference with the new digital format? I have a weak station (channel 2-1 ,Which is a uhf channel now) with a mast head amp and was wondering if the loss difference might make a difference. Outside was due and got upgraded with rg6 2 yrs ago. I was just thinkin that as long as my box is doun I could cut the rg6 and use that, replacing it later. What do you all think?

rg6 is always better but cannot say if it is your problem as i dont do ota yet. still have my old antenna up here. also, make sure you have as few unions as possible as every break in the cable increases resistance and there for drops signal strength

Just an update for anyone interested I cut my rg6 from my sat(since its not up) and put it to my ota ant splitter. Reception on worst staion at least doubled. Now watchable all the time. This removed about 40 ft of about 10 year old rg59. Im shocked it made such a difference. I then rescanned and now im up to 35 channels. Then replaced rg6 to dish (about 140 ft) in 1 piece and that works better too as i got rid of 4 connectors. How do I know you ask well I can switch sats and have the diseqc switch at the dish instead of in the middle of the wire run (the voltage was too low to switch sats when at the dish before)

The RG 59 is only good to about the end of the VHF TV channels and shouldnt be used for UHF (loss is too high) also getting rid of the 4 exta connectors will make a differance as each splice will add about 3 dB of loss, thats equal to 1/2 of your RF voltage, so with 4 connectoins you lost 6dB or 3/4 of your signal.

One solid run of coax is the best thing, you can add a pre-amp + power supply then a ground block but no other connections.

How about upgrading to RG-11?
