MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has showed the media a bit of boxing speed he’ll be using against Mexico’s Antonio Margarito on November 13.

But Pacquiao’s coach, Freddie Roach, assured that there will be more than just speed in the Filipino’s arsenal on fight night.

"We showed them a little bit. We didn't want to give away our game plan,” Roach said in a report by Fan House.com.

Team Pacquiao has opened the champion’s workout to media on Wednesday (Thursday, in Manila) as part of the promotions leading to the Filipino’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) super welterweight bout against Margarito.

"Manny just did 8 rounds on the mitts… we hit the double-end bag, the speed bag, jumped some rope, (and) did some shadow boxing. It was just a little gym workout. We normally do 12, 13 rounds on the mitts, but we cut that in half," Roach said.

The Hall-of-Famer coach said that they had purposely concealed some parts of the training.

“We just went through the motions. We didn't want to give too much away,” he said.

Pacquiao flew to the US on Saturday to resume his training after spending more than a month’s camp in Baguio City, Philippines.

No distractions
Pacquiao said he is pleased to train at Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles (LA), citing that he can now focus more on training.

“It’s a good thing we came back here, we can focus 100 percent for the fight," he said.

Pacquiao also said Roach and his team is much more comfortable having the training in LA compared to Baguio City.

“It's just that I know that Freddie and the rest of my team (are) more comfortable here at the Wild Card. So, you know, for me, it's a different atmosphere,” he said.

Roach was quite upset the way the training went in Baguio as Pacquiao had to take care of several commitments outside boxing, thus, affecting his training pattern.

The coach, however, clarified that their camp in the Philippines wasn’t really bad.

“So really, we didn't have a bad training camp; he just wasn't every consistent. Every Sunday driving to Manila, a 6-hour drive each way, it's draining on the fighter. [Pacquiao’s adviser] Mike Koncz getting married, Manny singing 6 songs at the wedding,” Roach said.

Quicker, faster, stronger

Roach immediately saw a dramatic change in Pacquiao’s training after resuming their camp in LA.

“The change of scenery is the biggest thing, he knows this is where it happens, this is his home this is his comfort zone, this is where he shines,” said the trainer.

Roach said Pacquiao has regained his old deadly form in sparring, a far cry from his ring performance in Manila last Saturday.

“We had our best day of sparring yesterday (Tuesday). It was night and day compared to last Saturday," he said.

Pacquiao, for his part, said that he’s more secure about his chances now that he’s in the LA Gym.

He said fans will be in for a treat come on fight night.

“I have prepared myself for a long, tough, difficult fight. You know, I think that everybody will see that I am quicker, faster and that I am strong and all of these things. I think that the fans are going to see a great fight on November 13,” he said
