Tim Bradley: 'Marcos Rene Maidana Will Break Amir Khan's Jaw'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Incensed at comments made about him by WBA junior welterweight (140 pounds) champion counter part Amir Khan of England, WBO king, Tim Bradley (pictured above, at left), of Palm Springs, Calif., called FanHouse on Wednesday in order to lash out at the former Olympic silver medalist with his own assertions.
Khan (23-1, 17 knockouts) has drawn the ire of Bradley as a result of comments he made to Mark Vester of BoxingScene.com in relation to southpaw WBC and IBF belt holder Devon Alexander, contender Victor Ortiz, and, Bradley, the latter of whom he said "I think I would walk over him," among other things.
"You hear all of that stuff that Amir Khan is talking about? Well you can tell Amir Khan that he ain't sh**," said Bradley. "This dude swore up and down that he's the best 140-pounder in the world, and, man, you know, he ain't sh**. He ain't sh** until he fights the best."
Khan is slated to meet WBA interim titlist Marcos Rene Maidana (29-1, 27 KOs) in an HBO televised bout on Dec. 11 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, a Golden Boy Promotions event whose under card co-feature matches Ortiz (27-2-1, 22 KOs) of Oxnard, Calif., against Lamont Peterson (28-1, 14 KOs) of Washington, D.C.
Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs) is in line to meet Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs), of St. Louis, Mo., in an HBO televised clash on Jan. 29. In August, Alexander earned a disputed, 12-round unanimous decision over Ukrainian-born former WBA titlist Andriy Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13 KOs).
"Tell Khan that he may as well just keep running his mouth right now, because after the fight with Marcos Rene Maidana, Maidana is going to break Amir Khan's jaw. And after Maidana breaks that jaw, he won't be able to talk any more," said Bradley.
"He's talking about after watching mine and Alexander's last two fights, that he will walk all over us and that we have a lot of weaknesses? Please. He believes that Maidana is a better fighter? That's crazy. That Maidana is a more skilled fighter? That's just stupid."
Ortiz has won four straight fights since June of 2009, when he lost a sixth-round knockout to Maidana, who was floored three times while Ortiz was dropped twice.
Ortiz is coming off of a Sept. 18, third-round knockout of former world titlist Vivian Harris (29-5-1, 19 KOs), whom Ortiz dropped four times, including three times in the second round. Prior to that, Ortiz decisioned former world champion, Nate Campbell, in May, flooring him once.
Bradley's last two wins were by unanimous decision over Peterson in December and welterweight (147 pounds) Carlos Luis Abregu (29-1, 23 KOs) of Salta Salta, Argentina, in a non-title bout in July.
"After watching the last fight of Alexander, there are a lot of weaknesses. I think Maidana has more than the other two [Bradley and Alexander]....skill, heart, everything. Ortiz is a good fighter. I think that's a future opponent. He's tough and has a good style and is quite explosive. Ortiz, I think that's a good fight for me in the future, " Khan told BoxngScene.com.
"I don't see Bradley as a threat. Maybe two years ago, I said that I see him as a threat," said Khan. "At that time, people were saying 'would you fight Bradley?,' and I wouldn't fight him because, two years ago after my defeat, I wanted to build myself up again. Now, I think I would walk over him."
Bradley confirmed that he is slated to attend a promotional photo shoot involving HBO in Los Angeles on Friday, and FanHouse has learned that Khan, Maidana and Alexander have also been asked to attend.
Asked if he would be able to keep his hands off of Khan at the shoot, Bradley said that he would.
"I'm supposed to be there in Los Angeles at 3 p.m., but I'm not sure where it is. I know that I'm going to be talking some sh**. This boy think he's something, but he's just a poster boy. He's on some crack or something. Otherwise, I don't know what films he's been watching," said Bradley.
"Maidana is a big puncher with a good chin, and that's it. Skill-wise? Maidana has no skills. Zero. He's a straight-forward fighter," said Bradley. "But after Maidana gets through with Khan -- who is going to knock his a** out -- and after I'm done whipping up on Devon Alexander, I'm going to show Khan how to beat Maidana. I really think that Maidana is going to beat him. Khan has a glass aw."
