Former WBC and IBF light flyweight champion Brian Viloria says he is confident in going after a third world title in the near future but knows that he needs to score an impressive win over Thailand’s Liempetch Sor Veerapol at the Ynares Sports Arena on Friday before anything else.

Viloria who has a record 27-3 with 15 knockouts moved up to flyweight after losing his IBF light flyweight title in a stunning 12th round TKO to Panama’s Carlos Tamara in a fight he controlled in the first eight rounds but suddenly wilted forcing referee Bruce McTavish to call a halt with just 1:15 remaining in the final round.

Viloria was rushed to hospital after he collapsed in his dressing room from exhaustion. He then moved up to flyweight and won a ten round split decision against tough Omar Soto of Mexico which helped move him up to the No.1 spot in the world rankings of the WBO.

In an interview with the Inquirer, Viloria said he is now being trained by Mario Salazar, the former trainer of the late undefeated KO artist and world champion Edwin Valero. Viloria said this has resulted in “hard work, going down to the good old grind and knowing that you still have what it takes to be a world champion and instilling that confidence.”

Viloria who sparred with WBA champion Giovanni Segura in training camp said “I held my own pretty much and its been great. Its great to show what kind of skill you have against that type of fighter” who is known as a big puncher among the lighter weight champions.

Veerapol has a record of 19 wins with 12 knockouts and 7 losses and has had two defeats at the hands of Filipinos Johnreil Casimero to whom he lost by a 5thround TKO on October 3, 2008 and “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona against whom he suffered a 4th round TKO on January 31, 2009.

Veerapol told a news conference hosted by Solar Sports who will promote the “Fight Fest” in its Battle by the Bay series that he had prepared hard for the clash with Viloria by sparring with WBC flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam and Oleydong Sithsamerchai and is ready to try and stop Viloria in his bid to win a third world title.

Another former WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol (26-5-2, 20 KO’s) who has also moved up to flyweight faces another Thai, Pompetch Twins Gym (14-2, 4 KO’s) while hard-hitting Denver Cuello (24-4-6, 14 KO’s) clashes with Kongkria Kiatpracha (17-11, 11 KO’s) who, according to boxrec.com which is not always accurate, last fought on October 24, 2008 when he lost by a 4th round knockout to undefeated Vacharakit Senahan.
