Las Vegas - At the MGM Grand, Glen Johnson (51-14, 35KOs) returned to the super middleweight division for the first time in ten years to knock Allan Green (29-3, 20KOs) out in the eight round to advance to the Super Six semi finals. Johnson gets three points with the win. At the time of the stoppage, Green was winning the fight by split decision, with two judges having him up.
After two rounds where Johnson was pushing the contest, a big combination of punches against the ropes had Green in troubel as the third round came to a close. From that point, Green did a lot of holding and jabbing. He was rocked again at the end of the fifth round. The end of the sixth was more of the same, with Green boxing well but then getting rocked at the end of the round. The rounds were close because Green allowed Johnson to rally with the right hand at the end. At the end of the eight round, Johnson rocked Green with a right hand that put him down. He was barely able to get up, but ref deemed him too unsteady to continue and stopped the fight.
