I have always had a place in my heart for animals, especially cats. and when i see kittens in distress, it really tugs at my heart strings. over the last 2 years, i have fostered 4 seperate groups of kitten too young to fend for themselves. the second group last year was 2 days old. sadly 1 of that group didnt make it and it was so hard to take. not knowing he was going to leave me that evening, i spent all day and evening with him. he curled up on my chest and was purring for 8 hrs straight. i was heart broken when i found out at what was suppose to be his 4am feeding that he had passed away. even though people around me told me that the other 2 only survived because of me, it was still hard to take. big guy with a soft heart :)

so a couple of weeks ago, i found 3 kittens that were left by their mom in a place i could not get into. they were cold, dirty and hungry. obviously they had been there for some time. after a couple of hours of squeezing into a small area, the 3 kittens were extracted. they took to kitten milk right away and it looked well for all of them. sadly one passed away 2 days later of phenomena at the vet. it was hard to take as the intake vet said the kitten wasnt likely to make it. then the next day the vet talked about him doing so well he would be coming home next day. sadly he passed away that very evening. again, a big blow.

now today i was working and saw a wild kitten sitting looking. came back after 1/2 an hour and he was still there. came back 5 minutes later and decided to go check him out. he didnt run until i got within a meter of him. both eyes were infected and he hadnt been cleaned in awhile. so i chased him for a few minutes but his visual impairment did let him get around too well. when i caught him, he hissed a little. close up i noticed that he had other problems as well. i held him as i waited for my wife to show up to take him home. it is strange as he never tried to get away. later this evening after his second bath, i even was lucky enough for him to purr and give me kisses. i had ointment for his eyes at home and he looks much better than when i picked him up. i pray that when he goes to the vet tomorrow that his problems will be minor and that he will survive. Please pray for him and wish him well. it will mean the world to me and my family.

thanks for letting me share and thanks for reading.

you never fail to amaze me, and i know your love for animals, your heart is surely of Gold, and the animals you save, and sadly the ones you lost, and not for the want in your trying to keep them, My friend I applaud you, and knowing if a stray animal is around, it would not go without a meal, and love and care both you and your wife give to them.................You are my Hero for the week...keep up the great work, and yes I will pray to St Frances of Assisi to be with you ........................W/H

Life is so fragile.

He is adorable and looks like my orange tabby named Simon.
He passed away a few months ago at the age of 7. He was so funny and full of life.

He was doing his usually evening run through the house and stoppped instantly in seconds and started to tremble and dropped right on the living room floor.
It was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. I miss him so much.

He always had us laughing as he was a real clown and thought he was a dog. We had taught him once, to sit and give a paw for a kitty treat. Then he would come to us and sit on his own and raise his paw to let us know he was ready for a treat. I think he taught us the trick instead.

He would hide around corners and jump out to scare you and pranch off very pleased with himself that he did.
Another trick was to bring us a little rubber ball that we would throw across the floor to ricochet into another room as he scurried after it to fetch it and bring it back for more.

Wow I really miss him

I pray this little guy is ok and fills your life with joy as our Simon did for us.

Edit:
I found some pic of Simon I took while he was resting on his blanket on the chair in my office, last year. He barely left my side when I was home.

hey mabs, its great to see another animal lover. i to rescue abandon animals quite often.
i have saved bunnies, dogs, cats and kittens even a turtle once. currently we plucked a 6-8 week old orphaned male kitten out from under our local post office and have cared for him for 6 or 8 weeks now. he seems very happy and we are gonna keep this one to add to our 2 dogs and 2 cats (and two kids...lol).
good luck my friend with this kitten mabs, i know how hard it is to nurse an animal and lose it after it seems to be getting better.
God bless.

people under estimate the over population of domestic animals in the world. so many people get pets cause they are cute and then the cuteness wears off and they don't want them anymore and some just dump these pets out on the streets. it so nice to hear what you and your family do for all these animals mabs. what a stand up thing to do!!! some people get truely attached emotionally to animals and its so hard to see your pet suffer or be in pain. we are pet lovers in my home with 2 dogs, 2 guinea pigs and even some fish. the one thing that i always think of when i get a new pet is knowing one day that pet will get old and pass away and we will be sad and suufering an emotional lose. loving a pet can be so rewarding because their love for you is unconditional. also sorry about the one that didn't make it. it's never easy. mabs, you are a great human being. thanks for sharing your story and my prayers are with the little kitten.

People have to remember that animals have feelings. I sometimes wounder if animals have more feelings than some humans?:noidea:
I have 6 cats 3 in the house & 3 outside that come into my heated shop each night (spoiled) I cant imagine being without them. They were all strays but one. Very happy to have them. My hat goes off to you for your compassion.
The world needs more people like you & your wife. I thank you from our friends that have paws & claws. With friends like you that little fella has a great chance at life!!!

I'm a dog lover, especially for boxers. I have three of them already and i just got two more. They are such big babies, but i love them all to death! I'm glad you love cats the way i love dogs. Thanks mabs for starting this thread so we all could discuss our feelings towards animals.
