First thing, why did you delete the hard disk partitions?

What is happening is called a post error, the 2 beeps means that it can’t find a BIOS to start up from, you are going to need to take it in to fix this problem.

when i leave 40 minutes unplug then shows screen esc to boot, when i get out from boot menu then again shows 2 beeps black screen. so is ther any thing i can do when next time it shows screen esc to boot.

If you get what is called the BIOS screen you need to go into it and set it to boot from a CD, then load the XP disk into the disk drive, you can then boot from that.

What has happened is you have deleted your operating system, (and other drivers) you will need to re-install it, you will also need all your driver disks that came with the laptop or some of your stuff (sound, video card (it will work only in VGA mode) network interface and other stuff) will not work.

Why did you re-format your hard drive??

because i thought all the virus will gone and i can resetup computer neat and clean,. When I saw bios once then i saw CD-Rom is 1st preference to boot then Hard Drive is 2nd. This is the only one time i saw f10 to set up mode, esc to boot. Now no showing any more, but already selected 1st boot Cd.

I never see like this, when i delete all partitions and reestablished computer from the beginig sucessful install every thing in other PC's.

I never know my laptop is not allow to delete partition to restablished hole windows again.

Do you think, if i could not install from CD then this laptop is not going to work any more.

1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps, this is exact hapening and total black screen.

thanks

Your laptop may have (or did have) a recovery partition that allows you to reinstall the operating system. To access this partition or to see if it is still functional, press F11 repeatedly during boot. If you wiped this out then you may have to order recovery disks from HP. If that recovery partition is there, pressing F11 will also allow you to make ONE set of recovery CD's.

Perhaps some these sites may be of assistance:

That's why I mentioned If. Reinstalling the OS by using the recovery partition (assuming it was originally there) would have accomplished what he was trying to do and would have save a lot of grief and expense.

i deleted and make one solid partition in the hard drive, there is no more recovery partition.
just happening 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps and total black screen.

Still Recovery CD can bring back to life this Laptop , even there is no recovery partition, then i will get one and give a try.

Try contacting HP. The complete model, serial and Windows ID numbers hopefully are on the bottom of the laptop. Since you obviously have a functioning computer, download Bart's PE and the EBCD from the 2 above links, burn the cd's accordingly and see it the laptop will boot from one of these. Pressing F10 during boot may get you into the BIOS providing it has not been corrupted.

I don't know what else to suggest except to contact HP. They'll probably ask you to take it to an authorized repair centre. I suppose its out of warranty?

In your first post you said 2 short beeps, now you have 1 long and 2 short, it indicates a video card (on board chip, or plug in card) error, this is a big problem, you will now need to send it to HP for repair, however it may not be all that bad, if it is an Nvida video chip the repair may be done for free as Nvida has lost a class action lawsuit and will have to repair a lot of stuff for free, you need to contact HP customer service to find out if yours is covered.

In any case you are going to have to take this one in to get it fixed.

no this laptop not covered any thing out of waranty period.

i did like this on other regular computer, to complitely delete all of hard drive then reinstall windows. in this way virus every thing properly clean. so i did the same thing on hp laptop, but not success.

by the way i have another question, in case any hard drive damage on pc then simply i replace or install another hdd. so if hdd damage on hp laptop then i can't replace or install new hdd by buying in the market.

So i like to know is this the way hp products work, the user can't do any thing replace, so that in future i will becarefull for doing so.

And i like to know if i format hdd complitely then vga card why it will not work and how comes vga card damage, because of this resion i can't see any thing on screen.

thanks

You could be missing the correct video drivers for your laptops video chips, when you re-formatted the "D" partition all your hardware drivers went away along with your recovery operating system,...

I have an HP laptop, its just over a year old. I'm trying to shrink one of the partitions to make room for a second operating system. It will not allow this due to bad sectors on the hard drive. However I am still able to boot from cd, dvd, or usb stick and even an external hard drive connected via usb and I can still access the BIOS. I may buy another hard drive if I can't resolve this issue. I do not expect any problems with a new blank hard drive but if I do I'll let you know. Something of a more serious nature must have occurred when you reformatted. You could still contact HP for help. Check out their forums. Chances are someone else may have had the same problem.

I use a device that will connect the old hard drive to a new one and do the OS and data transfer automatically, it runs via my laptop, you can get a larger hard disk and transfer all data from the smaller one, the software on the second laptop monitors the transfer, you then just plug the new drive into the laptop and your done.

One thing though is that you should use the same manufacture hard drive, (just a larger one) it saves any possible problems.

i connect with cable saperate monitor, still nothing shows on saperate monitor. if vga card problem in laptop then atleast it has to show on saperate monitor something.

as well as i download all drivers from hp site then made a regular cd, but this cd is not going to install any vga driver on this laptop.

jhony, connecting an external monitor was the correct next step but you may have to press "fn" key + key for internal / external monitor, in my experience the laptop will not switch to the external automatically.

for the future. you should have pressed f10 at boot to reformat the user partition, not the entire hd. this would have removed any and all traces of the virus. your hd is probably fine.

if the laptop is not too old you can order new restore discs direct from HP. the last set I bought cost $16US. this will return you to factory new condition.

another option is to find / dl any hp oem windows disc and use your existing cd key, you would also need to dl the correct drivers for the laptop. this option will install win XP and none of the bloatware that originally came on your computer nor will it reinstall the restore partition

i saw the fn key on laptop, but i don't find another key for internal/external monitor on the key pad of hp, if i know thes key then i will give a try to switch on external monitor to see screen.

to bring on factory new condition of hp is there any iso files which can born on dvd and try by my own insted of order this cds. but the other members said vga card blow out when i delete all partitions, so i am confuse how the hp restore disk will work on the laptop.

i already tried the 3 dvds of factory restore which comes when buy any laptop, this didn't help.

can you just install windows on the laptop?
put windows disc in and boot from there.
partition the drive
install the OS
get the ethernet going or wireless
connect to detect your missing drivers

done.

did this last weekend and it wasn't easy...

good luck

Go into the Bios on boot up, if the bios is set up to boot from a hard drive only it wont detect the cd..

This is the problem, the black screen 1 long beep and 2 short beeps means that your internal VGA card is shot, it needs a trip back to HP for repair, the card was made by Nvida, it is covered under the Nvida class action lawsuit.

You can't install anything on this laptop until this gets fixed, stop trying and call HP, tell them that your laptops video card has quit working, they will fix it for free as Nvida is picking up the bill.

And sense they cant get it to work with out an operating system to view the display they may have to re-store your OS for you, all you have to do is play dumb, tell them in an enclosed letter that you thought it was a virus affecting the display and you tried reformatting the hard drive to see if the re-installation of your OS would fix this problem, you then found out that the display its self was not working right.

i am not planing to send this for repaire to hp. but i am looking mother board to buy if some one having damage laptop on kijiji many peoples are selling parts there, so i am searching motherboard there.

i took out 117 GB hdd from the laptop and connect to external case then connect to computer and i already downloaded all drivers from the hp site, so i want to save this all drivers by making one seperate partition on this hdd like fat32 of 5 GB size. so i like to know in this way i can rebuild my hdd as it was before.

the vga file having like this name sp33537 , usually when double click on it then installation start in normal windows.

Boy......just look up all the hate for HP on DV series laptops...if you are out of warranty HP is not going to help. DV 2000/3000/6000/9000 all have grave problems...unfortunately I think you are SOL as we see this all the time. Success rate on these laptops are about 5%...we have piles of them in the back. Getting the recovery disks or trying to re-install Windows is going to be a problem...sorry to say but I doubt very much if it will work...although you may get lucky...if the wireless light is red on the front this is usually a sure indicator it is done....be carefull buying new MB...it must be new as many have fallen buying bad MB's for the same reason. One trick we use is to remove battery...get a piece of stranded wire and strip the end about an inch...put all the strands against the bat terminals in the bat compartment...while holding it there press and hold the power button..move wire around on terminals while presseing pwr button. Leave it overnight...plug in power cable--no battery and try to turn on...see if it post...if so you might be good to go on re-install. Hope you get it going
