Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel called the NFL “haters” Wednesday after being handed a $40,000 fine for a helmet-to-helmet hit, Philadelphia Sports Daily reported.

The veteran cover man, who leads the league with seven interceptions, put a crushing hit on wide receiver Derek Hagan during the second quarter of the Eagles’ 27-17 win over the New York Giants Sunday night.

Samuel received a personal foul penalty on the play.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection was answering reporters’ questions Wednesday about a comment made by former defensive back and current NFL analyst Deion Sanders, who called Samuel “the best off corner” in the league.

“He’s a hater. You can write that,” Samuel said.

As for the league’s fine: “They’re haters, too,” Samuel responded.

Samuel, in his third season with the Eagles, spent five years with the New England Patriots, helping them win two Super Bowls.

Alot of these fines levied by the NFL lately seem a bit controversial but if it helps lessen the amount of times players are taken off the field on a stretcher then I'm for it.
Credentials and stats mean absolutely nothing to me when a player intentionally means to injure another.

Totally agree Todd, too many paralyzed players through the years. Don't get me wrong I love the violence and contact of the sport, as long as it's not meant to injure.
