i have a trekstor external hard drive that just died.turn in on and it just keeps clicking, any ideas on how to retieve info on the dard drive would be appreciated

take it out of its usb case, and try reseating it; then see if it works again; sometimes it can be that simple
or take it out of usb case and see if you can hook it up to your computer inside
is still under warranty? that might be your best bet

ok stupid question, how do you reset or what do i look for.no warranty it 3 years old.i only have laptops so the hard drive wont fit

My external drive clicks when it isn't getting enough juice. It has 2 USBs, one for power and one for power/data. It is possible that your USB ports are no longer providing enough volts. Try another set of usb ports if possible. Same applies for external ac adapter. Test with a multimeter.
This is a last resort option. Refrigerator. For otherwise dead drives, I put them in an anti static bag then chill it for couple hours. Remove it from the bag and fridge, hook it up and as quickly as possible attempt to recover any data.
