Amir Khan beat Marcos Maidana tonite in 12 rnds by unanimous decision. But he isn`t laughing or flapping his mouth tonite, from my take he lost the last 3 rnds. It was easy to see the strategy of both fighters coming into the fight Maidana was going to fight with a low profile, thus taking a lot of power away from Khan`s punches-----Khan was running when he had to, covering when he had to, and countering when he had to----up to and including the 9th Khan pretty well had his way and was frustrating (along with the ref) Maidana who was clearly getting frustrated------then the 10th it was all Maidana 10-12 but in the end Khan won the decision and deserved it in my mind.
It seemed Maidana found a weakness in the D of Khan but too late-----Maidana had most of his effectiveness, one that others will note I`m sure by putting Khan on the ropes and making him move to his right---but too little too late for Marcos. Congrats to Khan.

Reposting here:

Why did Khan stop going to the body?????? knocks Maidana down with a body shot.... and never hits him to the body again... Roach said nothing to him about it.... wierd!
I would take Berto by knockout over Khan if they fought.... Khan has NO chin.
A big boy would take him out. Lucky for him Maidana was so tired.
Good fight though... Maidana can hit... but no defense at all.
Khan better stay at 140, any higher he will get knocked out!

What you guys think?

Joe Cortez didn't help at all, kept Maidiana from getting close, all night. Every time he did, Cortez would intervene and gave distance to the brawl. Khan is weak, no chin, his tittle will not last................

Cobra..
Well guys , this is the printout of "Ace Freeman of Fightfan" looks like he saw pretty much the same fight I did anyway...............I for one would certainly like to see a rematch in the future for these two.....I`m sure promoters are looking at the same.....

Ace Freeman reports....
Amir Khan survived a late scare to capture a hard fought twelve round unanimous decision win over Marcos Maidana moments ago in Las Vegas as seen live on HBO.

Khan came storming out of the gate taking the fight to Maidana in the opening round and nearly cut the Argentinian in half with a left hook to the liver. Maidana went down in a world of hurt but amazingly he beat the count and survived the round.

Khan continued to push the pace in the early rounds with lightning fast punches but Maidana recovered and reasserted himself in the fight.

After losing a point for throwing an elbow, Maidana landed some good punches in the middle rounds and pressed the action.

Khan continued to use his quick hands to his advantage and pulled ahead down the stretch but a big left hand from Maidana in Round 10 turned the fight in his favour. He hurt Khan badly and punished him for the final half of the stanza.

Remarkably Khan found a second wind in the eleventh and seemingly got his wits back. He peppered Maidana with some quick combos in the final minute of the round as the Argentinian appeared to have lost some steam as a result of his late rally.

Khan got on his bicycle in the final round and appeared confident in his early lead as he held off Maidana until the final bell.

After twelve rounds were complete the official scores were 114-111 (x2) and 113-112 in favour of Khan.

It was a clear case of Khan looking good early and crusing to a commanding lead only to see Maidana come storming on in the end.

FightFan.com had the bout 114-111 for Khan who improved to 24-1 (17 KOs) with the win, retaining his WBA light welterweight title.

While I agree with you bud that Cortez didn`t help, I didn`t see him hurting the issue that much either although I did notice a couple times esp that he broke them early for my liking. What this fight did show was that Khan can be pushed around by the big boys and he`s a totally different fighter when his big overhand right does not do the damage it has done in the past on smaller fighters. I found him weak up close and moving to his right jury is still out on that chin in my opinion---he`s fortunate to have built up those rnd 2-8 points but all in all he earned the win.

Yeah guys.. good points. I agree with Fibroso, Khan will not last too long as champ... you get a big puncher who has stamina and moves,,
like the guy that knocked Khan out in his only loss. Khan will go.
He looked like a drunken sailor when Maidiana hit him.. but Maidiana cannot move, so couldnt go after him.
Can you imagine Berto hitting him like Maidiana did?
I was like Lampley,,,,, you knock a guy down and almost out with a body punch, and you never hit him in the body again???????
Roach didnt help matters any, hardly even gave Khan instructions after he got hurt! Just asked if he was alright...
I was not really impressed with Khan OR Roach.
Maidiana just a big lumbering puncher that has a great jaw and no stamina.
The you get me,,, or I get you mentality.
I agree, this was not one of Cortez best referreeing jobs. Looked a little partial to Khan... but doubt it made a difference in the outcome.
Khan running around the ring in the 11th and 12th round didnt help his reputation any.
He is very good. But no chin!

I`m sure very soon Khan`s mouth will be a flappin` again---good thing, cause his fists didn`t say much last nite. I`m still not completely sold on the "weak chin" bit. I`ve seen a few of his fights now and it seems more to me that when he gets hurt, even a little, he doesn`t know how to defend till he recupes. I`m not sure if he`s hurt that much or simply confused at being forced to fight defensively. Nicely put by rudee "a drunken sailor" is what he looks like in this mode. I`ve mentioned this phenom a few times in earlier threads and saw nothing in last nites fight to change my opinion but rather strengthen it. He certainly can fight as an offensive weapon but looks a confused gangly mess when asked to defend. JMO

Agreed Cobra,,, if you guys and gals saw the film of his knockout loss,,, the opponent knew how to go after him... and knocked him out.
Maidenia just stalked around the ring like a one legged man.. let Khan run like Bolden.
Dont get me wrong,,, Khan has plenty of talent.. fast and furious. Moves great.
But ya gotta have a chin to survive in boxing... Just ask all the old time greats.
I still question why Roach didnt tell Khan to go to the body... not a word about it... I could hear his conversation.... maybe just too hung up on Manny.
I think if Khan goes to the body he wins in 5... Maidiana looked like he wanted to quit after the knockdown...
We will see..... good fights last night.. enjoyed em.

i thought that was one of the best fights this year.khan proved he could bang with the hardest puncher at 140.im not a big fan of khan but you gotta give him credit. dont know why he didnt finish maidana in the first when he had him down and hurt.no one at 140 hits as hard as maidana. i had it 4 rounds maidana and 8 for khan.after getting knocked down i think it seemed to take a lot out of maidana he was never the same .

Yeah, I had it about the same as you and I agree it took a long time for Maidana to seem to recover after the knock down Maybe it was a mental thing I don`t know but he did virtually nothing till the 10th when he owned the last 3 rnds.
