I have a router laying around my house. I want to know if this Airlink will work as a wireless bridge. If so, can anyone help me.

Unfortunately, it seems that it's not capable of dd-wrt software
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Airlink_101
I haven't had any dealings with the router or model but it seems from the specs I brought up that it's just a regular router out of the package.

My suggestion if you wish to go wireless connected for cheap is to get a capable router and change it over- it's not that hard. When buying, this link will allow you to check easier to see if the router is capable
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

But you can use it to expand your network to multiple devices with one wire, if that's an option

Not too many routers can connect to a wireless network out of the box except for buffalo (pretty sure that's the one) and high priced ones

Thanks wild, i can always count on you to help me. the whole point behind all this is so that i can flash the router with dd-wrt. so that it can be use as ap. so that i do not need to buy an expensive ap.

NP, but flashing it isn't an option for that, and that's usually because it doesn't have at least 8mb memory. I would suggest a linksys with at least 16mb memory. The 8mb work (have one myself) but they're rather crude and not capable of much "refinement" lol'ol. I can say even the 8mb works like it's supposed to without dropping connection, but it's better to have the larger. Usually you can get them for under $25 used on fleabay, I have bought one for $10 with free shipping but that takes time and being rather cheap :grr:. Just be sure to ask the H.W. rev if it's not listed because it's that number you go by to find the memory installed.
New is @ 40-60 I think and it can be modded without taking anything apart (providing not having catastrophic failure lol'ol). Never messed one up to the point of needing jtagging yet- and I tried :yeaah:
The second link will give loading instructions for whatever you end up with

i dont know if you have mention, what linksys are you are using because i have been the the web for the whole day now figuring out what linksys i should buy so that i can flashed it with dd-wrt. i have been hearing get from dishuser and many other to get this is one WRT54G.

Several models of wrt54 routers work - to be on the safe side check not only the model but the sn/rev number ( sometimes certain revisions of a model are not compatible while others are)

The 54g's I have are good (16mb and 8mb). I also have a 54gs (32mb) that works great, but you need the earlier revisions because the newer it is the less memory. The link I gave you first has the model and revisions for all capable routers there, here's the direct to the linksys::
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Cisco_Linksys_.28Wireless_a.2Fb. 2Fg.29 the revision # is the second column and the memory is the 5'th. Like I said before, the 8mb gets the job done but the higher the memory the better. Any on that link will get the job done though for connecting and giving internet.

just want make sure. to check to see what rev, it is the h.w rev. on the dd-wrt. is that right?

The hw number will be on the bottom of the router, and that is what you need to cross- reference to what memory and s/w can be installed. I find it easier to do the second link in ost 2 and search to find the ram/ version of dd-wrt that it likes, just type in part of what it is and it'll show a list- click on yours and it'll give ya all you need.

To use a router as an access point, can you not just disable the DHCP server?

Yeah, but he's wanting to have the network connection wireless to the router

satchick, i am looking for a wireless bridge. i have been reading that all i need is a linksys wrt 54g and flash it dd-wrt. and the linksys will become an wireless router/bridge with four ports. the whole point to all of this is to hook my stb in my room up to the net and instead of using a powerline adapter, an expensive wireless bridge, i can simply buy a linksys router for my receiver. this is all because i bought a vonet vap 11g would not stay connected.
