WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has a goal to become the undisputed pound for pound king of boxing. To accomplish this, he must defeat one of the two boxers ahead of him in the pound for pound rankings, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. He says a fight with Pacquiao is impossible because of the Filipino's demands on the weight. Regarding a fight with Mayweather, Martinez thinks the clash is possible for the end of 2011.
"I'm ranked number two in the pound for pound, behind Pacquiao and ahead of Mayweather. My goal is to be number one and that has been my dream since I was an amateur. I have to box against one of them. With Pacquiao it will be difficult because he is so much smaller. He wants me to go under 154-pounds and for me that is impossible. With Mayweather, I believe that we can reach an agreement by the end of 2011 and I would love to fight him for the sport, and the purse, which I reckon would be around $15 million from the pay-per-view," Martinez said.

martinez uses the word "reckon" ?
seriously though floyd mayweather has always been a minimum-risk type of guy, so this fight will not take place.

It will take place, if they reach an agreement on the weight. You see Roach wants to cheat by making him go down on weight and Floyd is bigger therefore can meet the standards required by Martinez. Floyd will beat him, Cotto can also beat him in 154pounds.JMO......

i think agreements on weight will be just one of floyd's always growing list of conditions. so many conditions, the fight will not get made.

I think the fight will come off... Floyd going thru tons of dough with his legal problems... lawyers taking him to the cleaners.. so is his lifestyle.
Hard to bet against Floyd. He is undefeated and wins his fights very easily.
He does fight smaller fighters though... Martinez a big boy like him.
I disagree with Fibroso though.. Floyd is way too fast for Cotto. He is very
difficult to hit. Ask Shane and Marquez and Hatton. And the rest for that
matter. Cotto is made to order for Floyd,, straight forward, no defense.
Hope the fight with Martinez and Floyd does come off...
I would definitely pay the dough to see it!!!
No way this fight will happen. Floyd's not going to fight this year and Martinez's big fight will be with Paul Williams in a 3rd match.

Rudeee, I was referring to Martinez, not Floyd....... Mosley was faster than Cotto, what happened in that fight? It's more styles than speed.

Well, the statement thrown out there was "I think PBF will fight me". Maybe he will---but not for a while if at all. PBF, the risk taker that he is, LMAO will not at this time fight anyone that could possibly have a shot at beating him. Legal problems abounding with no end in sight is costing him a fortune so you`d have to figure that the next one or even two fights that PBF has----are going to pay the lawyers etc-----now is PBF or anyone else going to take the risk of fighting for free and losing everything?, I doubt it and PBF is way too savy for that.
We may indeed get to see a Cotto-PBF fight because it would generate some big cash----but PBF would win that in a breeze in my opinion. Martinez is a whole other ball-game, he can beat PBF-----notice I didn`t say "would" beat him which for right now makes that fight impossible for PBF to take.
The big downside to all this legal crap etc---is time. I always maintained that a PBF-Pacman fight was inevitable and "will" happen but now that I`m looking at a couple "free" fights for PBF to pay off the lawyers etc and then and only then to get back to boxing-------well honestly, I don`t want to see them fight when they are both a mere shadow of themselves.

Perhaps Cotto vs Mayweather could be a possibility.Mayweathers last fight was the second highest selling non heavyweight pay-per-view bout in the history of boxing, with 1.4 million buys. HBO officially released that the fight generated $78.3 million in revenue. After the fight Mayweather expressed interest in moving up in weight to capture a world title in six different weight classes and to challenge newly crowned middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Will it happen??Who the heck knows. But one thing for sure is he will need to fight very soon.
