According to co-manager Francisco Espinoza, former champion Antonio Margarito will go directly to a second showdown with Miguel Cotto, which is set for June in New York but first he must receive the approval of his doctors. However, Cotto has decided to make a defense of his WBA junior middleweight title against Ricardo Mayorga on March 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"We have an appointment on the 5th with an ophthalmologist here in Los Angeles because he had his blood checked. And the most important consideration is from the plastic surgeon from Dallas who did the surgery. By the 29th of January, hopefully he gives us the ok to start training. Tony would then be ready to face Cotto by June," he said.

During his November loss to Manny Pacquiao, Margarito suffered a dangerous injury to his right cheek which resulted fractured orbital bone near the eye. Espinoza estimates that by May or June his fighter would be in perfect condition to fight with Cotto. Margarito stopped Cotto in eleven rounds in their 2008 welterweight clash.

"By the end of January, it would be the second month [of rehabilitation]. And I think he could then go to the gym to prepare for two to three months and be fine by May or June. I've say that to make money, both should go through intermediaries, but there is no problem in waiting until June [to return]," he said.

Both of these guys are punching bags..........
See who can absorb more of a beating!
Both have taken terrible beatings. Should have this fight in a hospital!

Your comment is based on the fights against Manny Paquiao. How many fights has he lost? He's taken a lot of beatings in his career. You need 2 bags in boxing, one to give and the other to take. Cotto's 2 loses came late in his career, one by Margarito and the other by Manny after his inexplicable muscle growth, ahh is no longer inexplicable, we already know. http://www.satfix.net/showthread.php?t=46667

I really am a fan of all these fighters, but in the fight game the young become old and they too reap what they have sown. As far as whatever Manny has taken or not taken sure it will build muscles but lets face it some really big guys have hit him clean on the chin and nothing happened other than making him throw more punches. I really hope Cotto does not fight Margarito again, just because the weight is higher does nothing for his chin or the ability for him to put out of his mind their first fight. Just my two cents and you still cannot get a cup of coffee with it.

I agree about age but also there's pride. The use of illegal wraps by Antonio in the first fight is on the line. The rematch is the opportunity for Cotto to proof everyone wrong. He never quits and never will. His stronger at 154 pounds and proof to be just as fast in this weight class. About Manny's ability to take a punch, no doubt about it but he's ability to go up in weight is doubtful. All you need is to compare pictures of him. A rematch between this two is on the way and later another rematch with Pacman should take place. JMO

mayweather and pacquiao both weighed about the same when they were 17. one was a pro and the other an amateur.

Cotto in the ending rounds with Margarito you could see him wilting from the punishment and with Manny he was doing great until Manny knocked him down the first time, after that it was over he was not the same, he was not attacking the same using his jab. So yes he has a big heart but someone has to look out for him cause if he steps into the ring with either again it will be a shame, honestly as bad as Manny has been pounding guys on the right side of their faces we are lucky no one has died.

When you are in your best shape and the other is drained out in weight, is easy to hurt anyone. Catch weight for one and super weight for Pac is not an even fight. Cotto took all that he had so did Margarito even with the advantage already mentioned. Lets make it an even fight at 154pounds. That's why Floyd is asking for the olimpic tests, to check on Manny's beautiful hair .
