Mine pulls in a signal from 6 miles away :D ( over open water) .. Very directional - a 1/2" either way makes all the difference.

I purchased mine a few years back - it is not usb but has a 2' cable with bnc connectors . - It came with a wrt54g series fouter flashed with dd-wrt ($140 from innovative /fleabay) . Mine is mounted on a camera tripod with the router mounted underneath .

New here but just gonna jump right in... I had a Cushcraft 2415 (2.4Ghz 15db) and it worked really well (was shooting about 1.5 mile.) After tinkering one day I made my DishCantenna (see my avatar.) Everyone said that it would blow that Yagi away. Didn't happen. Ended up being about the same. The Yagi was a lot easier to aim (alittle wider beam width I think.) Also, currently using a Yagi for Verison Internet access. Yagis do take very small movements to aim but you really don't have to worry about vertical (and it's nothing like trying to aim the vert and horz on a DIY dish antenna. :)

It could be that the dish you are using is not big enough for the 2.5 GHz WIFI signal but for a 12 GHz satellite signal.
They are two different sized signals, 2.5 GHz at full wavelength is 12 centimeters, 12 GHz is 2.5 centimeters, you can see the big difference.
This is also why a "C" band antenna is bigger then a "Ku" band antenna.
A dish of about 1.5 meters would work better, it would give you about 25 to 30 dBi of gain.
I have used 10 foot BUD’s to transmit WIFI over 10 miles Mountain top to Mountain top. (at 1 watt output)

An old primest*r dish works well also...

Yep. I agree that the size of the dish is probably why it was about the same as the yagi. ( Bigger Is Better;) )The small dish was all I had at the time. I am in the process of making a bi-quad for cellular and am planning on putting it on an old Prime* dish I just got. My yagi for that is shooting about 13miles to the tower but with speeds of only about 300-500. I do have a couple of C-band dishes and I did think about how great they would work for WIFI but for there is no way I could get them up high enough to get over these 60-70ft trees. Would love to see a pict of that 10 footer if you have one. Never the less, if it wasn't for my yagis and amplifiers I wouldn't have any access.

For the 2.4 I'm using a 1W ALFA AWUS036H (I think it was about $30 from either ebay or computergeeks, cheap enough to buy two, to have one as a spare) As for the cell amp, its a Wilson 811201 got it from the 3gstore for a couple of hundred (Ended up buying a spare 811101 on ebay for about $50. difference being the 101 only does the 850Mhz range where as the 201 does the higher cell bands as well. Around here Verizon only uses the 850 range.) The cell antenna is the Wilson 301111 yagi (until I get the Prime* and bi-quad done.)
Edit: Sorry the ALFA AWUS036H is another toy I've been playing with. The Amp I'm using for 2.4 is the 1W ARGtek (looks like ebay item 270704471919, also looks like they're about $40 now.)

So what exactly are you guys doing with these yagi antennas? Stealing your neighbours wifi or do you live on a huge farm and want to beam the signal to the stable/barn or something :) :)

i guess its only stealing if you have to crack a wifi... but if you can find one thats left open with no password it must just be borrowing..

I'll go with that, I was down for a few days last week as I was switching providers so I had to "borrow" my neighbours :)
