For those in the area Winnipeg got the first OTA channel Global CKND-DT. It's a UHF channel (40 I believe) remapped to channel 9.1. The picture is stunning and has DD audio. A $5 antenna from the dollar store will work in the city.
CBC is rumored to be next and the drop dead date by the government is for all channel to be digital by August 31 2011.

thanks for reply,
the reason i asked because i was scanning and was not getting the signal. Then i moved the position of antenna couples of time scan it multiple time and then got the signal and all is well now. The wording channel 40 and remapped to 9.1 was confusing, because i was getting analog signal as 9.0. But now i got it.
Thanks.

alot of it will depend on what hardware you use and not all antennas will pull all in all channels..excep if you get a digital converter box they say with an outdoor antenna should be even better...many peeps have trouble pulling CTV & Global stations evn before the switch so who knows what will happen after the switch is done

I hooked up my Viewsat 9000 HD to a $9 antenna yesterday and I picked up 3 local HD channels. Oh boy. Nothing looks better than OTA HD channels. It's amazing how clear the picture looks. It really sucks that it can pick up HD but not regular SD local channels though. They are simply not watchable. However I don't believe there is EPG with OTA channels.
Too bad there is only 3 HD OTA channels available right now in my city.

ok in winnipeg they switched to digital on 30 august 2011
ctv=7.1 (channel=7)
global=9.1 (channel=40)
city tv=13.1 (channel=13)
joy11=35.1 (channel=35)
both cbc english and french will continue analog on channel 3 and 6 until September 30, 2011. At that time will be changed to digital channel 27 and 51.
I can get global, joy11 and ctv very sharp and clear, more clear than cable, all on rabbit antenna. but city tv is very difficult due to weak signal and interference. I wished all should have changed to UHF.
