Well, here we go kids..........
First of all I`ll say I hope and pray I`m dead wrong in everything I`m about to print here...........I hope I`m just another idiot writing something that will be easily proven wrong-----but I`m not.
Hate me if you want, yell at me if you so please, call me a turncoat but I`ve seen nothing as of yet in my beloved Team Canada that would suggest they even have a shot at beating the US team tonite. Here are my reasons......
Goaltending---a no brainer, Jack Campbell far outclasses either Vesetin or Roy, anything can happen and I hope it does, but Campbell is a proven goalie that rises to the occasion----neither Canadian goaltender has shown anything so far.
Checking----Canada won the Swiss game on work "down low" (behind the red line in offensive zone and in front of net) with relentless fore-checking and puck control. USA, like the Swedes, won`t let this happen---they are bigger, stronger and more experienced than the Canadians. The USA will win the battles along the boards for the most part.
Offense----USA, as they did last year, and like the Swedes did this year, will send the 3rd man into the high slot---Canadian forwards have shown no ability nor the desire to stop "third man in"----it`s suicide if our forwards keep waiting for breakouts. To win Canada must make the most of quick passes and hit & run techniques on their trips into the USA zone---enter Jack Campbell. Canada has all but forgotten their point men as an offensive weapon----Ellis has the most potent point shot in this tourney---where has it been?? Canada is content working down low and not using their point men as part of their offense----USA will overpower the smaller Canadian forwards and "trap" their defense creating the dreaded "odd man " rush that killed Canada last year and this year vs the Swedes.
Again---I hope I`m dead wrong and Canada finds a way thru quickness and speed and a newer game plan than anything we`ve seen yet to come out a winner.
Sadly for us Canuks-----USA 5-2 advances to the gold medal game.:tape::bawl:
