"One-Click" Tethered JB With redsn0w 0.9.6rc7

While we all wait for an untethered jailbreak solution, the Dev-Team has updated redsn0w with a "one-click" option for the tethered 4.2.1 jailbreak. Rather than the multiple screens you normally see, you can now use redsn0w on the command line to "Just boot tethered for now."

There are currently two major efforts towards an untethered jailbreak. The "jailbreak monte" backup plan is still in beta, and is only available to developers who have access to the 4.2 beta 3 build. While that is underway, @comex is working on the 4.2.1 untether and making good progress (even if slower than many of us would like). So since we're kind of stuck with the current stet of affairs for the immediate future, the Dev-Team added some command-line options to simplify the process.

You need to just specify redsn0w by location and run the appropriate arguments for your setup:

-j to ask redsn0w to "Just boot now"
-i [filename] to specify your reference IPSW
-o for old-bootrom iPod touch 2G and iPhone 3GS
-b [filename] to specify your own boot logo png

For example, if redsn0w for Mac and your IPSW are on the Desktop, you would use the following command to do a tethered boot of an iPod touch 4G jailbroken at 4.2.1:

The zipfiles for redsn0w 0.9.6rc7 [Mac] [Windows] include a script file that lets you double click to launch redsn0w with the above parameters. You can create custom *.command files for your particular configuration, but Mac users should remember to make them executable with chmod +x. Windows 7/Vista users should run redsn0w as Administrator in "XP Compatibility" mode.

I would love to get my iphone 4 to tether and have been reading for days but just cant understand how to do it the right way with out messing my phone up??I have 4.2.1 witch i think i should not have done but any help would be appreciated, i running windows 7 or 8 not sure,sorry
will or can you jailbreak the 4.2.1 without ****n it up?

I just heard that the Dev Team is waiting for 4.3 to drop to make an untethered Jailbreak. I would wait until then. JMO

zeroGsti please forgive me b/c i'm not up on the lingo but who is Dev team and that means we will beable to tether after we jailbreak my iphone right?when you jailbreak one does that mean u can use all the internet you want with it with out them charging them there high ass prices
i've googled jailbreak and read for day's but dont understand the difference from doing it now or later?will i still have my same number i;ve had for 16 yrs that i've been with them?sorry if i'm kinda dumb with the jailbreak thing but i'll get it

Thanks Bigpineguy i have one more question ,what i'm trying to accomplish here is being able to connect my i phone4 4.2.1 to my laptop at work and surf the web without paying $50 more.I only go too a couple of sites anyway witch are FTA and MMA sites.
so if i JB the iphone i can do this tethering right??

I use a program called Mywi4.0 Just_Angel suggested it to me, and it works great, it does cost $20 but then you have it forever

Sorry for coming into the conversation late. But all the stuff BigPine was saying is correct.

After jailbreaking you can download MyWi. MyWi is an app you download from Cydia after Jailbreaking your phone. It costs $20? There's a way to get Cydia apps free from Cydia by adding certain Repository under manage sources. Another cool app is called 3G Unrestrictor which allows your to watch Youtube clips crystal clear as if you were on WiFi and also allows you to Factime on Iphone 4's on 3G. 3G Unrestrictor tricks your phone into thinking its using WiFi.

Ok let me see if i got this right i would beable to tether with my iphone4 for $20 with MyWi4.0app but it would have to be Jailbroke and i would only pay the $20 one time and i can do it with 4.2.1...

It Has to be Jailbroken first before you can get MyWi. MyWi is only available on Cydia which is an app store that shows up on your phone after you jailbreak it. Most developers who get rejected by...

This is with your ipone4 JB right?and with that you can connect your i phone with the 3G to your laptop and surf the web,I just want to go to web sites not dl nothing as i've posted i just hate looking at the little screen on the phone,so if i JB mine tonight then pay for MyWi for $20 i can tether??I might not use it 1 or 2 times a week i just want to beable to get on net at work in my office when i want.

I actually own an Iphone 3G not an Iphone 4. There are people that I know that have JB'n their iphone 4's on OS 4.0/4.1 and tethered with no problem. I think you better wait for the untethered Jailbreak instead of whats out now. Untethered jailbreak means if you jailbreak your phone and for some reason it shuts off and turn it back on, you have to jailbreak again meaning tethered jailbreak. (Nothing to do with the topic of tethering your phone for wifi)

No problem man. That's why we're all here, here to help everyone out. I don't know much about satellite stuff so I figure I can contribute some of the little knowledge I know here in the Iphone section and pretty soon PS3 section. This is off topic but there's a new jailbreak for PS3's that allows playing ROMs. (Old Nintendo, Sega Geneisis, etc..) I will keep you updated on the 4.2.1 Jailbreak and just PM me for the link after I post it here in the Iphone section.
