Trainer Freddie Roach continues to advise Manny Pacquiao to take Shane Mosley seriously. The Filipino WBO welterweight champion will defend his title against "Sugar" Shane on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Roach doesn't want Pacquiao's focus broken by people who continue to call Mosley "an easy opponent."

“I just need to get Manny to stop listening to those people who see that this will be an easy fight. That's the worst thing in the world that they could tell him,” Roach told 8countnews.com's Brad Cooney. “You're the best fighter in the world. If Shane wins against Manny, those last two fights [Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Mora] will go away."

Roach is not going to allow Pacquiao to get caught in the same way that Mayweather was clipped in the second round of last May's fight with Mosley.

“We need to be ready for something like that. We're not going to underestimate him [Mosley], we're gonna be in great shape, we expect him to be in his best,” said Roach. “Mosley actually is the better puncher and quicker, of course… this is the first guy Manny's gonna fight that has fast hands, he throws a little bit angle. We should come up with a better game plan, beating him to the punch."

Since there's no catch weight deal here, he's getting scared about Sugar's hand speed and ability to punch. It will not be a piece of cake i assure you. Like any other fight in 147 pounds even or 154 if he decides to go up a bit. Thing will get rough around Manny this coming year, you can run but you can't hide.

While I`ll agree that you should never take any opponent lightly or train or put forth anything but your best in the ring I`m trying to remember just when I last saw the once "great hand speed or the punching ability" of Shane Mosley----oh say rnd 2 of the PBF fight?
Once you get to a certain level anyone CAN beat anyone on a given day----but they seldom do...............and as much as I admire Shane Mosley, his day has passed and I really don`t think he can bring it with Pacquiao for long if at all.
Champions have gotten there and stayed there by taking no one lightly---I doubt PacMan is anything less. I still can`t see this match-----in the least.

I felt the same way but he came on strong against Margarito knocking him out, something that Manny didn't do.With Floyd, well it was more of a conservative fight, no real intentions of beating the dude. Just for the cash. Now against the filipino, with no catch weight involved, a hole different thing. Millions as stake here. I'm sure he's gone put a hell of a show, could be his career ending show.................:okay:

We`ll agree on that it`ll be a "career ender" LOL.......at least I think so anyway. and yup, the fight with PBF was indeed a money grab. I`ll also agree that there are millions at stake in a fight with Pac and that Mosley will give it his all (I hope) but I question what he`s got left to make it a decent fight. I`m thinking the tank is almost dry----there may be a will but I don`t see a way. I`m looking Pac in 4

Totally agree with you Cobra... this was NOT a match made in heaven.
Shane has as much chance of beating Manny as Joan Rivers does being
named Miss America!
This is a quick payday for everyone concerned.. wouldn't surprise me a bit
if Manny carried Shane for a few rounds to make it look decent.
Just the way Floyd did..
I just hope people out there don't cough up their hard earned cash on this one.
Save yer dough... setup if you ever saw one.
My mailman just came back from the Philipines and says Manny even taking
heat over there for making this fight.
He says Manny has sights on his political future over there.. thats one reason he took Shane.... make some dough and not take chances.
Don't think anyone who takes their boxing seriously really gives Shane a chance.
If they do,,, take yer dough to Vegas and get some super odds on Shane.
I will skip this dance.

Way before you were born thing like this was happening. Let's stay in the topic, can't believe you brought Joan into this, must of us have mothers, sisters and daughters......:offtopic1:

I honestly believe Shane will beat Manny, he can box southpaw with power in both hands his favorite punch being his left hook which he usually throws as a counter. with his hand speed he will be able to throw the lead straight right hand and respond to Mannys counter left with his followup left hook. this fight will be about speed and ring generalship with punching power being equal between the two but Shane is a very strong guy so the infighting should be exciting. I agree that age is not on Shane's side but even with his last couple of fights you could see his focus was not there. Hopefully it will be for Manny since the best deserve the best.

You are so right about your analysis, the straight right hand was the weapon that Marquez used when he beat the hell out of Manny after going down a few times. Manny has no defense to that punch. Shane does have that weapon and you'll see it in the répertoire.
