For a little break here I`m not going to write about the game so to speak---we`ve all seen enough and heard enough (and we`ll hear more) of one of the classic chokes of all time. I`m going to jot down a thought I had during the final moments of the game.
I was in my early 20`s during the great summit series 1972 Russia-Canada and I remember quite well the stunned Canadians whose beloved "pros" were taught a few lessons by the Russians. We resorted at that time to calling them "robots, cyborgs" etc (to some extent it was true) emotionless players who 5 secs after the game you couldn`t tell if they won or lost---they displayed practically no emotion.
Turn a few pages to today----what a huge uplift it was watching the pure, honest, overwhelming emotion of those Russian kids when they knew they had the game in their pockets.
A great comeback? A miserable defeat? Maybe both-------but the real winner here to me is all of us, citing how far we`ve come in the last few years and how much we`re all really alike.
Tonite----maybe we all won something more important than a game. JMO
