CES: Penthouse to Launch 3D Channel

Washington, D.C. (January 9, 2011) -- Adult-oriented Penthouse says it will launch a 3D channel in the second quarter of this year.
Despite wags who might joke that Penthouse should call the channel a 3-DD channel, the company seems serious about trying to reach the new 3D audience, even if most industry estimates put it at just one million U.S. homes.
"We started shooting in 3D this past summer, and have significantly invested to perfect 3D production quality," said a spokesman. "Consumer excitement for 3D content is high, and Penthouse is the one studio that can rely on its broad expertise to deliver 3D in a manner unmatched by any other branded entertainment company."
Penthouse, which has already launched a high-def channel, says the new channel will feature original programming shot in native HD and 3D.
While Penthouse has had some difficulty persuading TV providers to carry its HD edition, it might have more luck with the 3D channel. There is such little 3D content available now that cable and satellite operators may be inclined to add the channel when it launches in the second quarter.
