Following up to an earlier report on BoxingScene.com, WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan told BBC Five Live that he will likely defend his title against unbeaten EBU light welterweight title holder Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12KOs) on April 16 at the MEN Arena in Manchester.
According to Khan, a deal to face Lamont Peterson fell through over money. Khan said Peterson asked for a "huge number." He hopes a deal can be made in the "next few days" with McCloskey.
"He approached us. He's an undefeated fighter. I'm happy to take the fight on. The next level for him is world title and I'm to take the fight on. He's a good fighter," Khan said.
