The former world super bantamweight champion, Panama's Celestino "Pelenchín" Caballero has expressed concern about the next title defense being put together by the "regular" featherweight champion of the WBA, Jonathan Victor Barros of Argentina on February 18 in Panama, where he defends against Mexican challenger Marco Lopez.
The WBA made Caballero the number one ranked contender in the division. He made a protest to the WBA regarding Barros' next fight. Caballero argues that Barros' time to make an optional defense has expired and it's now time to meet his mandatory obligation.
"I'm number one in the world and I think I earned that right [to fight for the title] by vacating the super bantamweight title. We hope that the WBA will consider our position and makes a decision," said Caballero.
