In the tradition of Germany's late tentacled tipster Paul the Psychic Octopus, Chicago unleashed its own oceanic prognosticator Thursday — Ty the Sea Lion.
Ty launched his forecasting career by predicting the winner of Sunday's NFC title clash between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.
The flippered forecaster leaped from the water at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium and made a beeline dash for the Bears logo held in his trainer's right hand when asked who would win.
He received a tasty fish for selecting the home team before revealing his distaste for the Packers as he stuck out his tongue when asked what he thought of the long-time Chicago rival.
If Ty turns out to be right, he could become the unofficial successor to Paul, who gained fame in the summer of 2010 when he correctly predicted the results of Germany's seven World Cup soccer matches and Spain's 1-0 triumph over the Netherlands in the tournament's final.
It was reported Monday that Paul, who died in October, will be honored with a six-foot statue at his former home, the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany.
