expanding my horizon

I am currently on dial-up Internet.3 kbs download speed max, and I'm trying to get Internet worth getting , so I can maybe look at getting iks ,unless you tell me dial-up will work ? The only neighbours around is about 1 km away,and the closest to me with anything wireless is about 3.5 km away with satellite Internet. would anything stand a chance of working for me ?

if it is explorer net, exceculink, bell towers, or rogers tower. any one of these in 4 kilo radias.

I'm on dialup in the boonies and my IKS works fairly well considering I now have no phone service when I watch TV. SV 360 elite + iHub...

Thanks for the info. May I ask why you do not have phone service at the same time; tryed befored?

dial up internet ties up the phone line. so, using iks, is using the internet, is using the phone line. therefore, no phone.

Is there a question here concerning Wifi? Are you wanting to possibly set up a wifi dish to pick up the closest neighbor ? I would get , at the very least, a 23 dbi wifi directional dish with CA 400 cable , but also make sure that you can get it high enough to have a clear line of sight..

I believe you said in another thread that you were getting a WiFi signal from your local library. What is your estimate of the distance, and maybe you could post here what equipment you are using to receive that signal.

I'm using a 2.4 GHz 24dBi Grid Parabolic Dish Antenna and may access point equipment is NS2....

I get my signal from over 5 miles away using a yagi antenna and a linksys router flashed with dd-wrt .
