Well NASCAR race fans the season is starting, and what better way to kick off the 2011 season NASCAR pool here than to have a SHOOTOUT..... the

If you have been following along with the updates here, you might have noticed that the rules stated things would be a little different this year. Well here is a preview....

This race will be a little different from our standard weekly race pool.

Rules are simple....

Pick the correct winning driver from the list below, pick closest to the lap number of the first caution lap, pick closest to the lap number of the last caution lap, (caution lap picks are for tie breakers) and your the winner for the week! This race is for fun, so no points will be awarded for the season, but the winner will have the weekly title change, and be listed in the weekly winners thread.

Example....

Driver: 24 Jeff Gordon
FCL: Lap # 10
LCL: Lap # 70

Remember this is a 75 lap race, and in two segments (25 laps - 10 minute break - 50 laps), so choose your picks wisely. Deadline is 30 minutes prior to the greenflag. Race time is 8:00 p.m. EST Saturday, February 12, 2011. This race is televised on FOX.

Here is the driver list (no particular order)

Well SuperQ I expect some heavy competition from you this year....good luck to you "neighbor"!

I am glad to see that we have some returning customers....some old familiar faces....and some new faces.

buckets88, eyeQ, JCO, costactc...glad to see you all returning.
pollypurabred...glad to see you show up again...hopefully you can make the whole season with us.
runamok...glad to see a new face here. Hopefully you have read the rules, and if you want...run through a couple of the threads from the 2010 season, that will get you up to speed on how things go. If I thanked your post, that means that I have entered your selection into the excel spread sheet to keep track of everything. We keep it pretty simple, and just like to have fun. Welcome to our little pool!

Yea I forgot about that......had a headache all day yesterday.

About time you came out of the wordwork!

All....the thread for the Daytona 500 is open, just remember that you might want to wait to post your picks until after the qualifing order is complete. Yes they do qualify today, but that is only for choosing the top 2, and the bottom 36 - 43. We have to wait until Thursday when they have the Dual 150s qualifing races.

Congrats Mental on your second place finish.LOL I know for a split second Busch was thinking that.I can't believe the run 2 cars could get at times drafting.Made the other cars look like they were setting still.

DD I know the top 2 get set.I never heard about 36-43 being set.I thought I knew how those spots were filled.

Good question you have there, as it is confusing.

I was thinking that is was 36 - 43, but it is 40 - 42.

Here is a copy from Jayski's site on how this crap works. :D

The simple version: how the Daytona 500 lineup is set:

Pos 1 and 2: Pole sitter and outside pole sitter from qualifying
[no need to be top 35 in prevoius season car Owners Points]

Pos 3 thru 39: top 35 in prevoius season car owners points and two highest finishing teams in each Gatorade Duel races race NOT in the top 35 set by their finishing postion in the Gatorade Duel races.

Pos 40-42: fastest qualifiers not in by above

Pos 43: past champion provisional - at this point only. Otherwise the spot goes to the next fastest qualifier.

The Gatorade Duel races:

The Daytona 500 pole-sitter will start on the pole of the first Gatorade Duel at Daytona. The outside pole winner will start on the pole of the second qualifying race.

Cars that finished in odd positions (first, third, fifth, etc.) in owner's points last season will fill the first qualifying race, and those with even-number finishes will compete in the second race. The lineup for each qualifying race will be set based on the qualifying speeds. Owner's points do not determine the car's starting position, only which of the two Duel races in which it will race.

Cars that were not among the highest-ranked 35 in the previous season will be alternately entered into the two 150-mile qualifying events based on qualifying speeds. The non-top 35 car with the fastest qualifying time is entered into the first (odd) Duel race, the next-fastest in the second (even) race and so on.
