Boxing fans, you can have a little more hope today about the possibility of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr actually fighting each other. According to a Monday report by Boxingscene.com, Bob Arum and Floyd Mayweather Jr spent most of Sunday together watching the Super Bowl. Apparently, they had a nice cordial time together. Could this be the first step to actually making the mega-fight happen?
"[Top Rank President] Todd [duBoef] and I sat next to Floyd and his girl and we watched the game together in Jerry Jones' box. We talked about the game and had a very nice afternoon. It was very cordial and all we talked about was football and general stuff, but nothing to do with boxing. Everybody was having a great time so we didn't talk about boxing. Jerry spent some time with Floyd. It was very, very nice."Bob Arum, BoxingScene.com
If Arum and Mayweather Jr can come together for a day and put aside their feelings and past experiences, then it gives me some hope that a fight can actually happen. I would have never guessed that Arum and Mayweather Jr would spend the Super Bowl together. These two have been at odds ever since Floyd Jr left Top Rank Promotions about 5 years ago. And let's not forget the incredible amount of issues that have risen from the on-again, off-again negotiations between Floyd Jr and Manny.
I was about 99% sure this fight wouldn't happen. But after reading about this and seeing the photo of Arum and Mayweather Jr, I'm now about 88% sure this fight won't happen. At least we're making some progress here.
From AQUA:
Ok, before you all get excited about this development, be extremely cautious and temper your expectation. The writer was 99% sure the fight won't happen. He is still 88% sure if won't happen...and I agree. Mayweather has too many pending issues aside from the most significant one - his demeanor suggest that Pacquaio is the most dangerous boxer if will ever face - and that is his number one problem. His legal issues are also ongoing with jail time possibilities.
Now without rehashing old and tired views about this fight NOT HAPPENING, your current thoughts are appreciated. Let us keep the discussion interesting, insightful, entertaining, objective and clean! :innocent:
