From Examiner.com

Boxing fans, you can have a little more hope today about the possibility of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr actually fighting each other. According to a Monday report by Boxingscene.com, Bob Arum and Floyd Mayweather Jr spent most of Sunday together watching the Super Bowl. Apparently, they had a nice cordial time together. Could this be the first step to actually making the mega-fight happen?

"[Top Rank President] Todd [duBoef] and I sat next to Floyd and his girl and we watched the game together in Jerry Jones' box. We talked about the game and had a very nice afternoon. It was very cordial and all we talked about was football and general stuff, but nothing to do with boxing. Everybody was having a great time so we didn't talk about boxing. Jerry spent some time with Floyd. It was very, very nice."Bob Arum, BoxingScene.com

If Arum and Mayweather Jr can come together for a day and put aside their feelings and past experiences, then it gives me some hope that a fight can actually happen. I would have never guessed that Arum and Mayweather Jr would spend the Super Bowl together. These two have been at odds ever since Floyd Jr left Top Rank Promotions about 5 years ago. And let's not forget the incredible amount of issues that have risen from the on-again, off-again negotiations between Floyd Jr and Manny.

I was about 99% sure this fight wouldn't happen. But after reading about this and seeing the photo of Arum and Mayweather Jr, I'm now about 88% sure this fight won't happen. At least we're making some progress here.

From AQUA:

Ok, before you all get excited about this development, be extremely cautious and temper your expectation. The writer was 99% sure the fight won't happen. He is still 88% sure if won't happen...and I agree. Mayweather has too many pending issues aside from the most significant one - his demeanor suggest that Pacquaio is the most dangerous boxer if will ever face - and that is his number one problem. His legal issues are also ongoing with jail time possibilities.

Now without rehashing old and tired views about this fight NOT HAPPENING, your current thoughts are appreciated. Let us keep the discussion interesting, insightful, entertaining, objective and clean! :innocent:

This fight has always made sence money wise..Both fighters making a tone of dough and probably set a record high.I'm sure the promoters will get there way and this fight will happen all in time..The forestanding problem is and seems to be PBF'S concerns with Pacquaio and so called PED'S..If we could get past that i'm sure it's a go..

Deep understanding of human nature would likely solve the mystery behind the inadequacy of the "multi-millions" payoff to motivate the combatants, especially Mayweather. It is clearly explained by Maslow's "hierarchy of psychological needs". Pacquiao's public and financial stature has elevated his psychological need up where most successful people are - self-actualization and transcendence (7th and 8th hierarchy of psychological needs). He no longer fights for money. His thoughts are with the millions looking up to him as their hero and role model. All his psychological needs have been met.

Mayweather is not destitute (even with alleged problems with the IRA). With his previous successes, he has climbed up to the 6th hierarchy - satisfying his "cognitive" and "aesthetic" needs. He places great values to his accomplishment's "symmetry, order and beauty". Risk of loss represents a much greater motivation than money. It is what prevents him from rising to the highest hierarchy of needs - self-actualization.

Thus, "dangling the carrot" no longer works regardless of the size of the carrot.

Well, I do believe that you are a true boxing aficionado, senor. There are many interesting matches to look forward to besides this. Khan, Berto, Ortiz, Donaire, Froch, Ward, Bute, Dzinziruk, Zvik, Gamboa, Lopez....whew! lots of them!

Maybe Jerry Jones was making PBF an offer he couldn`t refuse.................................

I agree aqua that we shouldn`t get excited with this little bit of more fodder that surfaces every couple mnths regarding this fight. You`re right, there`s a lot more to look forward to--------------------there we go agreeing again!!

These promoters want a piece of the carrot. And there's no doubt about it..And thats why they keep on pushing it.The financial gains could setup Pacquaio and Mayweather plus there promoters large..And that's human nature..The bigger the carrot the bigger the prize and that's what this sport is about..
