C/P from the Bleacher Report - posted yesterday

From AQUA - This is hilarious and entertaining!

The year is 2031 and the neighborhood barbershop (one of the throwback ones that still uses real human barbers instead of the robot barbers) is packed with about a dozen men, old and young, and they are all discussing boxing while getting their hair cut.

One of the senior most grandpa barbers has heard enough of the youngsters bragging about the new current 2031 pound-for-pound champion as they so ignorantly boast that he could have taken out anyone with ease throughout the history of the sport of boxing.

This is the perfect time for gramps to educate all of these youngsters about the two top pound-for-pound fighters of his time—Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Almost all of the youngsters begin to automatically dismiss both Pacquiao and Mayweather as they are so quick to deny either of them would have a chance against their current 2031 pound-for-pound champ.

They begin to look up whatever they can on both Pacquiao and Mayweather from their new iPhone 24.0s.

Right away they see tons of videos and articles about both Manny and Floyd from the year 2011. Literally hundreds and hundreds of articles of fight fans and the media pleading to make the fight happen.

Mayweather

These kids then take notice to Mayweather's perfect record of 41-0 (25 KOs) and learn he was a five-division world champion. They start to watch highlight videos of him schooling his opponents with ease, thoroughly outboxing and shoulder rolling his way to victory after victory.

They are most impressed watching Floyd put a clinic on a then-undefeated Diego Corrales, knocking him down five times with ease in their super featherweight title fight.

Then they see the Arturo Gatti fight for the WBC light welterweight title where Floyd destroys Gatti with his superior skills and speed.

This fight makes them believe Floyd was the fastest fighter ever.

Next is the Zab Judah fight. They see how Floyd is troubled in the early rounds against an equally fast fighter also with power. Ultimately, they see Floyd take the win over Judah. This makes them really wonder how Floyd would do against an equally fast fighter who can constantly pressure him for all 12 rounds.

After this fight, the kids take notice that Floyd fights, for the most part, at the higher weight classes with a very technical defensive style where he breaks down his opponents, outboxes and outpoints them rather than going for the knock out.

This current 2031 pound for pound champion is a beast who is fast, strong and powerful but does not possess the stamina and technical ring IQ that Floyd had throughout his career.

Out of the dozen fight fans in the barber shop, only four of them decide that Floyd Mayweather could probably defeat the current champion via close decision. The majority of the shop decides that Floyd would get stopped by the 2031 No. 1 fighter.

Pacquiao

Then the kids look up Manny Pacquiao.

They take notice to his impressive record of 52-3 (38 KOs). They see that he does have three early losses in his career and begin to take that into consideration.

They then learn that he is the only boxer to win 10 world titles in eight divisions and also the only boxer to win four lineal title championships in four different weight classes.

The guys are rather impressed, as these records have held up and no other fighter has even come close 20 years later.

Watching his highlight videos they see him destroy: Barrera, Morales, Diaz, Hatton, De La Hoya and Cotto.

Due to most of them having ADHD, they overwhelmingly prefer Manny's more aggressive action-packed fan-friendly style to Mayweather's superior technical style.

They also notice that Manny does get hit a lot more than Mayweather does, but he also takes more risks and opens up more as well—just as the current 2031 champ does.

But also as the deciding factor in comparison to the 2031 champ, they notice that Manny (just as Floyd) has tremendous stamina and does not fade as the rounds go on. They see the Cotto fight and how Manny was able to withstand the power shots and knock Cotto out in the 12th round.

The verdict

The men take another vote and decide, that out of 12 people, 10 felt Manny would knock out the 2031 champion in the later rounds after an accumulation of punches from various different angles.

The other two rule it would be a draw.

A number of the kids then begin to wonder why Pacquiao and Mayweather never fought each other and the grandpa barber says, "Do not even get me started on that one."

So they ask him who would win in a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather, and gramps, a fight fan who prefers technical fighters over aggressive fighters, says Floyd would have probably shoulder rolled his way to a decision.

The barber shop erupts in disapproval for they are all casual fans (like most fight fans in history are) and they all scream, "Hell no! This Pacquiao dude would knock out Mayweather."

So there you have it.

Again, because the majority of the world are made up of casual fight fans, an aggressive, powerful, fast fighter who goes for the knock outs will always defeat a more technical defensive-minded fighter who does not let his hands go.

History will show that the numbers do not lie and at the end of the day, Manny's historical records of being the only fighter to win 10 world titles in eight world divisions, four lineal titles in four weight divisions, and being the BWAA fighter of the decade, will win and overpower Mayweather's undefeated 41-0 record.

And, again—the world is made up of casual fight fans, not boxing experts—so in closing, the only way Mayweather can win the historical debate on who was better him or Pacquiao is if he beats Pacquiao.

If they never fight as this story would show 20 years from now, that is how they will view both of these fighters.

So to answer the question who needs who more?

Floyd Mayweather needs Manny Pacquiao more than Pacquiao needs Mayweather.

Come to think of it 2031 is only 20 years from now. Both boxers would be in their early/mid 50's. They would be up there with Tiger Woods!

Like Fibroso say, this fight may still happen! Bwahahahahaha!!!!

Pac is not Superman although some do think he is. Money is Gods gift to human kind so eventually it's gone catch up to both of them and the fight will take place. If Manny would've done what was requested by Floyd in the past, we'll be discussing some other issues. Or maybe his career would've ended. Who knows.............

Atta boy Fib-----regardless of who did or didn`t do what in the past the $$$$$ will end up being the deciding factor. Now it seems that Jerry Jones is involved and like him or not his talent for being a meddlesome tryrant gets results---very lucrative ones for all involved.
Ok Aqua, I`ll take a stab at it----the fight will take place, naturally in Dallas, sometime late summer or early fall 2012..........but "who knows" like fib said.

Aqua.....my Cndn tire money is more dependable than your loonie-----ante up son.

All the more reason for us to want and pay for him to get in the ring-----you can bet he and Jones knows it and will promo the fight that way. Kinda like the old "good guy vs bad guy" thing-----The PPV will go thru the roof and Jones knows it`ll sell, big time.

I really don't care if this fight ever happens. Manny fans won't be happy watching this fight. Lets face it, all the action in Floyd's fights happen outside the ring. Inside the ring he sucks all the excitement out of a fight with his running. Floyd will spend most of the time running and Manny will spend most of time chasing him down. Manny will probably win on points but it will go down as Manny's most boring fight ever.

I`m with you bud, at least in the fact that I don`t care if the fight happens. But if it does you can bet we`ll both be watching it---and that`s the bottom line as far as they both are concerned. Very seldom does a promo`d "super fight" live up to the hype and this one would be no different----expectations from both fighter`s fans would be ravenous. A perfect scenario for a trilogy----Aqua has already alluded to it, and I have to agree---------but we gotta get the first one in first....LMAO

I agree, the fight will sell a lot of tickets and if Mayweather wins the first fight, a trilogy will sell out great.

Mayweather's problem is that he is like the Rush Limbaugh of boxing. What I mean by that, is out of all the people out there that watch boxing, only a small percentage of them are really his fans. Lets say that 30% of the people are his true fans. Yes that 30% is a heck of a lot of people and is more then some of the other big name fighters have, but that isn't where he makes most of his ticket sales. Where he makes his money is off the other 70% of people that can't stand him and buy his tickets in hopes that someone will beat him to shut his mouth once and for all. The moment that Floyd looses, it is game over for him, because the 70% of people are finally going to be satisfied and they won't buy his tickets again.

That is probably the biggest reason the fight will never get made. In the end, Floyd probably stands to make as much money by not fighting Manny, if not more, then he would if he fought Manny. He can sit on the sidelines, say things like Manny is a fake because he uses PEDs, which makes his fans like him more and makes his haters hate him more. If he waits Manny until Manny goes into retirement, he can make his big comeback. He might only make half as much as he would per fight then then he would be by fighting Manny, but he could hand pick his opponents and fight several more fights.

Manny vs Mayweather fight, I doubt it ever happens, but if it does, yes I will be one of those people watching to see someone finally shut Mayeather up.

We have 41.8 million african americans more or less in US. More than have will be ruling for Mayweather against Manny Paquiao. Now if we count the africans from the main land, wow a lot of brothers will be ruling against Pacman that night, I assure you. They'll be watching to see a black man take away some of that greatness that the Filipino fighter posses. A lot of money there to be made in bets. A hell of an event to see,no catch weight for this one and the rulings will be very strict. I know were my money will be for that one.

Agree on that, my friend. We have to look at this from the sport kind of view. Why are we waiting for this? We all know, now we must stop criticizing one side only. Big mouths have hung around boxing for quite a while , to be more real, the best of the bests was Ali and his mouth was bigger than a hipo's. The name is price fighters, they do this for money. It's all about money. Fanaticism blinds people and they can't see the issue here, is just a boxing match. A way to make or lose money.

do they do it for the money?,, YES!! ,, but
at this level,, these guys are millionaires many times over...

ice hockey golies do it for the wins and shut outs.. Martin Brodeur
ice hockey players do it for the points and the records.. Wayne Gretzky
Golf players do it for the wins.. Tiger
Tennis players do it for the titles.. Federer
race car drivers for the wins
baseball players for the records
basketball players for the records

and so on and so on..

love him or hate him ,,,, Mayweather ,, is 41 and 0

you and i and all boxing comments will be made on the
question of whether you like him? or you hate him?,, do
you want to see him lose his unbeaten record? or do you
want him to retain it? and we will debate these questions
until they meet in the ring.

if they never meet in the ring,, then the record will be
forever written that Mayweather went UNBEATEN !!! 4? - 0

plus,, mayweather didn't avoid Paquaio,, all Paquaio had to do
is let the maywether camp test him!! to which he declined,,
suggesting at the very least that either he is a very stubborn
man or that he is not clean.

i don't know who is the better fighter or who will win, but when
or if this fight happens ,, i will be watching along with the rest
of the world!!

they are both amazing athletes who have amazing records, and
accomplishments in their sport
