During a recent radio appearance in Mexico, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez gave his opinion on the recent war of words between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya. Alvarez is promoted by De La Hoya's company, Golden Boy Promotions. De La Hoya made critical comments about Chavez's recent decision win over Billy Lyell in Culiacan. Chavez, angry over the comments, issued a public challenge which dared De La Hoya to come out of retirement.

Alvarez and Chavez are up and coming rivals in Mexico. On March 5, Alvarez will return against Matthew Hatton. Chavez will see action at the end of May against WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik.

In defense of his promoter, Alvarez is willing to take De La Hoya's place and fight Chavez.

"De La Hoya is now retired, but there are a lot of other boxers who can fight. We are here. Here we are. If [Chavez] wants to fight with someone - here I am. I'm at welterweight and super welterweight. If I can get that fight [with Chavez Jr.] then good, but he is not the only option," Alvarez said.
