Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bears and head coach Lovie Smith have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2013 season.

Smith, the third-winningest coach in franchise history, had one year left on a four-year extension he signed in February 2007. His 66 wins, including three in the postseason, trail only George Halas and Mike Ditka in club annals.

The Bears were 11-5 this past season and won the NFC North title for the third time under Smith. Chicago beat Seattle in the divisional round of the playoffs before losing to arch-rival Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game.

Smith has a regular-season record of 63-49 since taking over for the 2004 season. The Bears are also 3-3 in the postseason under his watch, reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in 21 years with their appearance in Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season.
