In the opening bout on Showtime’s split-site doubleheader on Saturday evening, Antonio DeMarco rode a strong start to a hard-fought unanimous decision win over Reyes Sanchez at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Scores were 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.

DeMarco (25-2-1, 18KO) jumped out to an early lead, opening a cut over Sanchez’ left eye in the first minute of the fight and counterpunching his way to a four round head start. Sanchez made the fight interesting when he was able to turn it into a war, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome in the end.

The win was DeMarco’s second straight since his lopsided knockout loss in what would be Edwin Valero’s final fight last February.

Sanchez ends a three fight losing streak, falling to 20-4-1 (11KO).
