I have shot a ton of moose and deer, but where I live there is no elk around.Yes I can imagine the hair on the back of your neck as it might be the same as a bull moose coming to the call. Maybe one day the elk hunt will be in order.

Never heard them bugle close up but chased a couple of 2 year old males with my car - they were running parallel to the road in a canola field. They call it rape in saskatchewan .lol) - they didn't go far it tired them right out . I got to within 20 yards of them.

Stan you shouldn't be chasing them in the field with your car, that's something that JCO would be doing lol J/K
Well I've been within 20-30 yds of them in heavy bush and there making sounds that I didn't think possible, one time at night we were sitting in camp bugling like idiots and there was one coming in and it at times sounded like a dairy cow ::MOO MOO:: and then bugle ???? and were all looking at each other like WT Heck :D

Ya does make your hair stand but bugling a bull elk while out bow hunting and bringing in a Big Bull within 10 yards of you is one wild experience I have been there more than one time. and look forward to again this fall here in Alberta. I have eaten them all and can never turn down a Elk steak my favorite by far. Moose ain't to bad eather.
