From Aqua's desk:

A few hours ago, the Irish Times announced that DAVID HAYE has agreed to fight this summer against…well…either Wladimir or Vitali. Nothing is confirmed except that Haye has agreed to get in the ring for title unification. The problem has to do with some injury. Wladimir is recovering from an abdominal injury. If he recovers before June, he is taking on DAVID HAYE; otherwise, Vitali will get it on with the loudmouth from London.

This weekend, we saw quite a few exciting matches. El Canelo Saul Alvarez gave his growing Mexican fans something they have long hungered for – a new Great Mexican boxer. With Morales, Barrera, Marquez, and other former Mexican Icons losing their glitter in the boxing arena, many fans are dying to latch onto a bright prospect. At only 20 years old, this new Mexican sensation has 36 wins with 26 KO’s and no loss. By beating Matthew Hatton, he claims the WBC light middleweight crown – one of the youngest to do so.

I was surprised that Hatton stayed on his feet that long for a unanimous decision.

Now, don’t mention Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Although he is Mexican with a 42-0 record with 30 KO’s, he does not have CANELO’s followings probably because many believe that he is being “primed” to follow in his father’s footsteps.

It’s funny how DELA HOYA announced only 8 hours ago that he is not interested in getting CHAVEZ against ALVAREZ because – “they are in a different weight class”! LOL, Chavez is a middleweight. El Canelo weighed in at about 165 lbs last Saturday against Hatton. Seriously, this is what is wrong with boxing. Golden Boy is not interested in getting their boy trashed in the ring.

This Saturday, we have COTTO against MAYORGA. Read what Mayorga has to say about “why he would knock out Cotto”! Yup, it is right there on Phonetools post: “Because he wants to knock PACQUIAO out and become famous all over the world.” Oh well, there is no law against dreaming – which is what awaits Mayorga on Saturday. I don’t give him more than 8 rounds against Cotto.

Then we have NONITO DONAIRE and AMIR KHAN. Khan was honored last Saturday as the SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE DECADE at the Lebara British Asian Sports Awards. DONAIRE was cited in the Philippine Senate for his great accomplishment. He has also reconciled with his father, ending a two-year feud because of “misunderstanding” – a controversy that has fuelled media speculation.

Because of all these developments, Boxing is on a rebound and many will be flocking boxing arenas like they did during the era of the HEARNS, HAGLER, LEONARD, ALI.

That is my backup, nano converted into ilink. Also a Sonicview 8000HD in the room for my grandson. So, I will see this one no matter what. Cotto should ko this guy in 9, so he can get a good work out for the Margarito rematch. Then go after the Paquiao rematch to end up his carrer without any doubts. This at 147 pounds even............

Cotto fought very smartly using his boxing skills. Mayorga provided a lot of entertainment with his antics. However cool-headed Miguel was, he certainly could have ended the fight much sooner. He was overly cautious. What is admirable is that he stayed with his game plan. He peppered Mayorga with very accurate jabs and body punches. I am surprise actually that Mayorga stayed up for as many rounds.

I am with you though. Cotto is on his way to regaining his respectability and could easily rule his division for a while. I think a Margarito rematch would be a sell-out. However, a Pacquiao rematch is remote as Manny is intent on finishing his career at 147 ... and soon. I think Manny is close to hanging up his globes. His last could conceivably be a decisive KO victory of JMMarquez.

Yes, that would be one heck of a rematch. I think Cotto will have his revenge. But before you get all excited about that, how about TWO UNIFICATION Fights: Wladimir Klitschko against David Haye for the IBF/WBO titles and Tim Bradley against Amir Khan for the WBC/WBO/WBA titles. These fights are on the drawing board for July. The Boxing world is sizzling right now. You can also wait for some announcement concerning Donaire!

Oh....and then there is PAVLIK on the PACQUIAO/MOSLEY undercard; David Lemieux (Montreal boxer 25-0 25 KO's) vs. Rubio (WBC elimination in the Middleweight division) - April 8; and look out for Lucien Bute. Whewwwwwwwwww!!!

So Haye is going to take the plunge finally and face a Kiltschko.Great news.I think Timothy Bradley will beat Khan.Look forward to seeing a Donaire bout in the future as well. This kid could have something.

Wladimir is recovering from an abdominal muscle injury. It is the only obstacle to the fight. If he does not recover fully, then it will be Vitali against Haye. Vitali, however, is fighting against undefeated Cuban 2004 Olympic gold medalist Odlanier Solis (Solis beat Haye as an amateur) THIS WEEKEND. So you see there is a lot of drama. By the way, Solis will not be "undefeated" next week.

As for Khan/Bradley, I will bet you dollars to donuts that Bradley will be sweeping floors after the fight with Khan - UNLESS he can head-butt Amir Khan consistently - which I don't think will happen since Roach already knows "how Bradley wins with his head".

So who should Donaire face to make a statement right now?

So who should Donaire face to make a statement right now?

Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno holds the other (WBA) Bantamweight title. Hence, that would be a good "unification" fight. However, Moreno (Panamanian) is shaking in fear (I think) because of what he knows of Donaire. He declined a $300,000 purse. I mean, really! But he alone is not to blame. The ruling bodies are guilty of "mismanagement". They should force these fighters to "fight or give up the belt"!

Donaire could go after the winner of the AGBEKO/MARES fight (for the IBF title). He could really clean up in this division but many of these guys are scared stiff to face him.

At worse, he could go up to super bantam or lightweight. How about a Juan Manuel Marquez fight? That would be something wouldn't it?
