Battle for the Quarterfinals: What each team must do

Pakistan

Matches Left: vs Zimbabwe, vs Australia.

What they have to do: Win one more game in order to qualify to the quarterfinals.

+ What is preferred: Beat both Zimbabwe and Australia and rely on Sri Lanka to beat New Zealand in order to finish on top of the group.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing both games. If Zimbabwe beats Kenya then Zimbabwe will be on 6 points and will be equal to Pakistan. It will come to NRR. If Zimbabwe thrashes Kenya, there is every chance Pakistan will be eliminated.

India



Matches Left: vs West Indies

What they have to do: Beat West Indies.

+ What is preferred: Thrash West Indies to finish with a good NRR and a possible top place in group.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing to West Indies and having Bangladesh win both their games against Netherlands and South Africa. England beating West Indies. Bangladesh will have 8, SAF 8, West Indies 8, England 7, India 7. It will come down on NRR, and if England is better, India will be eliminated.

Sri Lanka



Matches Left: vs New Zealand

They have qualified to the next round of the World Cup.

New Zea land



Matches Left: vs Sri Lanka

They have qualified to the next round of the World Cup.

Australia



Matches Left: vs Canada, vs Pakistan

They have qualified to the next round of the World Cup.

West Indies



Matches Left: vs England, vs India

What they have to do: Win one of the 2 games, already have a healthy NRR.

+ What is preferred: Win both games and earn the top spot in the group.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing both Games. If Bangladesh thrashes Netherlands, beats South Africa, and South Africa beat Ireland, then India will be on 9 points, South Africa will be on 8 points, Bangladesh on 8, England on 7. West Indies will have 6 and will be eliminated.

South Africa



Matches Left: vs Ireland, vs Bangladesh

What they have to do: Win one of their games.

+ What is preferred: Thrash both oppositions in remaining games to get a good NRR, and finish on top of group.

How can they be Eliminated: Lose both their games. If Bangladesh thrashes Netherlands, England only beat Windies and West Indies beat India. Then Bangladesh will be on 8 points, Windies will be on 8, India will be on 7 points, England on 7. South Africa will be on 6 and will be eliminated.

England



Matches Left: vs West Indies

What they have to do: Beat West Indies.

+ What is preferred: Thrash Windies incase the qualifiers are based on NRR and have Bangladesh lose both their matches.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing to West Indies and having Bangladesh win one of their games. Bangladesh will then have 6 points, England will have 5 and will be eliminated.

Bangladesh



Matches Left: vs Netherlands, vs South Africa

What they have to do: Win one of their games. Have West Indies beat England.

+ What is preferred: Win both their games.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing one game will put them on the brink. If England beat the West Indies, Bangladesh is out of the World Cup

Ireland



Matches Left: vs Netherlands, vs South Africa

What they have to do: Win both their games.

+ What is preferred: Beat South Africa and totally thrash Netherlands. Have West Indies beat England and Bangladesh losing both their games.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing one game will put them out of the World Cup. If Bangladesh or England win any of their games, Ireland will be out of the World Cup.

Zimbabwe

Matches Left: vs Pakistan, vs Kenya.

What they have to do: Beat Pakistan and Kenya.

+ What is preferred: Beat Pakistan and absolutely thrash Kenya. Then rely on Australia to thrash Pakistan. Zimbabwe will have a possibility of qualifying on NRR.

How can they be Eliminated: Losing to Pakistan or Kenya will end their road.

Kenya


They have been eliminated from the World Cup.

Canada


They have been eliminated from the World Cup.

Netherlands


They have been eliminated from the World Cup.
