Rey Mysterio did in fact work the Smackdown house show this past weekend, although it had been widely reported, even by Jim Ross, that Mysterio was unlikely going to be wrestling in a WWE ring for the remainder of this year. It is unknown if he taped a backstage promo since he was at the arena in his gear but didn't appear in front of the live crowd.
In an update to the situation, it was announced at last night's ECW/Smackdown taping that next week's Smackdown broadcast will be headlined by Rey Mysterio vs Batista in a Street Fight. So it appears that Rey will be working for at least another week, and the match against Batista next week could be where WWE shoots some type of injury angle. At this point, there have been no reports claiming that Mysterio is NOT going to have the planned surgery.
