Posted By William Mackay: At 42, Glen Johnson is an old warrior with countless fights under his belt and many war scars from his many battles. Johnson, a career light heavyweight, has found success recently by moving down in weight and participating in the Super Six tournament.
Johnson recently defeated Allan Green, knocking him out in a mostly one-sided fight. Now Johnson is hoping to do eliminate WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch on May 21st in their semifinal match-up in the tourney. The loser of this fight will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner will move on to face the winner of the May 14th semifinal bout between Arthur Abraham and Andre Ward.
Johnson’s best hope is with the defensively limited Froch, who fights with his hands down by his sides and doesn’t have much in the way of hand speed. Froch, a big puncher, is the favorite to beat Johnson on May 21st because of his power and size advantage. However, Johnson has a couple of things going for him that may help him find success against Froch.
Johnson has a very high work rate and is capable of really letting his hands go. Froch, as we saw in his loss to Mikkel Kessler last year, has problems with his stamina and doesn’t seem comfortable with fighters throwing a lot of punches. Froch needs rest breaks and Johnson can beat him if he stays near Froch and keeps landing until the Brit wears down and is ready to fold up.

I have seen both boxers fight. My bet is on Froch on this one. Why? Father time is against him. He is 42. Froch is 9 years younger. His only loss is against Kessler, obviously on an off night. (Kessler fought with his heart - it was the difference for us unanimous decision win.)
