Posted By Dan Ambrose: WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-0, 27 KO’s) makes his third defense of his World Boxing Organization title this Saturday night against number #9 ranked challenger Orlando Salido (34-11-2, 22 KO’s) at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
This is an interesting fight because Salido is coming off of a one-sided loss to WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa last September, yet is being given another title shot despite the loss. It’s a weird situation because the fighter he lost to is in the same Top Rank stable as Lopez. So what we have here is a kind of a fight that will give boxing fans a gauge to tell who the better fighter is – Gamboa or Lopez.
Gamboa had no problems beating Salido. But if Lopez wins but struggles, we’ll be able to make a determination about Lopez’s chances in a future fight against Gamboa. Aside from that, I fail to see any point in Lopez being matched up with Salido. It’s clearly a fight that hasn’t interested boxing fans because no one is talking about the fight on internet boxing forums. In hindsight, Bob Arum would have been better off finding someone that is on a winning streak instead of someone that just got beat like Salido.

Bob is known for this type of practice, using his own fighters to make money within his own organization. This doesn't really measures one fighter against others, as we know styles makes the difference. Tom beats Jerry, Jerry beats Joe yet Joe beats Tom.
