Other types of stb designed for the European continent in Pal. When I left Europe over 10 years ago there were already over 1,000 fta channels. Key sat spots are Hotbird at 13E and Astra at 19E+28.2E. There must be some other forms of nfps working there, try googling a Euro sat site.

If there is an stb that won't work with different voltages and PAL, I've yet to see it. At the most you would need an adapter for the power plug. There are many more FTA channels there. If you want more than those, you might want to pick up a receiver there though.

Most STB's should work in England, the only drawback is the TV set tax, you have to pay the Government almost $250 US (145 BP) to watch TV over there and they take pirate TV users to jail for not paying the tax.

More on this can be found here.

Presuming they catch you of course. But since you will bring the stb through customs, that might be a clue. :D

I wouldn't purchase an stb in the UK though, prices are ludicrous. Cheap receivers can be purchased in Hungary, Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria. You could order one and get it within a week and save $$$.

i say get a Dreambox (not DB 100!!!!!!), it will work here and there

you can get a cheap clone (db 500) and it will work just fine.

dreambox is the most universal stb there is and with a little reading you can do some fun things with it, like streaming to game console (and watch it on another tv in the house), stream it to a PC or laptop or justin.tv (and let others watch on internet) e.t.c.

but there is some reading required!!!

Most receivers, especially if purchased overseas will have a complete sat list already. Be prepared for a huge difference. Literally thousands of free channels. You will find many open channels that you will understand on Hot Bird, Astra and Eutesat sats.

Costa is right. With 1 meter dish and motor you can watch over 1000 free channels in Europe , movies ,news ,sport even porn.LOL
Last summer I bring in Bulgaria my Viewsat Ultra and had no problem vith most european free to air chs.
I cut the original cord and just connect piece another cord with europian plug ,but you can buy adapter .
Most STBs work on 110-220Volt with out any power adapters ,just make sure and check wath say on the labbel STB
P.S.....no need ch. list
Manualy input oneTP. /from Lyngsat/find the bird ,do blind scan and rename the sat

You don't really need to pirate anything over there, as others have pointed out there are thousands of free channels available. Any receiver will work with the factory software...
