Videotron tops one million cable phone customers

On November 25th, Videotron became the first cable company in Canada to reach one million cable telephone customers.
The company reached the milestone just under five years after it entered the landline telephone market.
The next cable company to reach one million subscribers is likely to be Rogers or Shaw Cable which reported having 909,000 and 829,000 cable telephone subscribers respectively.
Despite reaching the million subscriber threshold, Videotron still has quite a ways to go to catch up with the traditional telco’s. In landline telephone service, Bell Canada, Telus and Bell Aliant remain the largest landline telephone providers with 7,097,000, 4,100,000 and 2,980,684 lines respectively.
Collectively the big three telcos have about 14.2 million landline subscribers versus the big four cable companies which have just over 3 million subscribers.
