Guys sorry if this is redundant, I've only been into FTA for about 4 months. MY first diseqc already crappy out and I've been told that many are pretty cheesy. Infact, I haven't seen any I couldnt buy for 5-10 bucks, so I wouldnt know if one that was more expensive would be a good quality one or not.
What I'm basically asking is, whats a good quality one, thats on the same level as the sw-21/sw-44 that I'm more accustomed to.

It should be under warranty, so contact the dealer or the manufacturer and replace it for free. No need to buy a new one.
The best would be the spaun sar411f. Spaun products are one of the few brands of products both recognized by dave and charlie for use with their equipment. They are used in major installations for hotels, hospitals, commercial buildings, apartment complexes where many connections are necessary.

Do you know any reputable places I could get one from and not get ripped off either online or in the gta (if you're from around here).. If you do, please PM any info.. I checked on ebay and kijiji, nothing.

Solidsignal usually has the best prices, they're a little higher on a few things but they're a reputable company. You'll pay more for the commercial grade stuff but it's designed to last.
Those Spaun switches aren't meant to be installed outside either, but really in our climate exposure to the elements will accelerate the failure of any of these switches.

have 2 emp installed outside and we get more than -50celcius and they been outside for 4 years and not a problem. So may be yours was faulty ,but like the above poster say ,plan to have them inside if weather is a problem.mine is right under the eves drop.chieta will be the other I would recommed.

I have 8 EMP Centauri switches outside (in enclosures) that have been working great for about 4 years. EMP Centauri is a good switch. Many times the problem can be a lack of grounding your dish system, especially if you have more then 1 receiver. The dish, switches and cables should be grounded to an earth ground using solid copper wire, preferably 10ga insulated.

EMP Centauri are very good if they are original and warranty is few years if I remember right. I would get a multiswitch EMP from an authorized dealer only. They can be expensive but last and you can fine tune the quality of signal and amplification. They are nice. Just my two cents.

hmm. I really can only put them outside the way I have all my wiring setup.. I just ordered a chieta with a weatherproof sealed box for outside. we'll try that and i'll keep searching. I figured these spaun ones would be ok outside too. good thing is my stuff is on the south side of the house and really doesn't get exposed to anything direct (especially with a casing over it)..

Hmm well only 1 receiver is running off it, but maybe thats a suggestion i'll have to look into

You can still get all kinds of kooky things happening even with 1 receiver. Some receivers are more "touchy" then others. I have found, for instance, that switches on my SV have to be grounded. Without grounding, channels would be missing upon scans.

It will also help prevent more fried switches, by directing any transient voltage to ground.
