Sources are telling Sportsnet the Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Jiri Tlusty to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Philippe Paradis.

Paradis was the Hurricane's first-round pick in this past June's Entry Draft. The 18-year-old centre is currently playing for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

He has eight goals and 11 assists in 26 games so far this season. Tlusty was the Leafs first-round pick (13th overall) in the 2006 draft, but despite 74 NHL game over three seasons, had failed to stick with the Leafs and had played most of the past year with the Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Tlusty, 21, had eight goals and seven assists in 19 games with the Marlies this season, and in 2008-09 had 25 goals and 66 points in 66 AHL games. He had 10 goals and 10 assists in his 74 NHL games.
