From Aqua's Desk

Boxers earn their living in the ring. Some also earn income from endorsements and other sources. Many have earned incredible amount of money throughout their best years. But the true measure of their wealth and success is not how much they earned but how much they keep. It is also interesting to note how long (or short) it took them to accumulate their wealth; and how much of what they own TODAY is net of liabilities and contingency.

NET WORTH is measured as the difference between assets (properties, investments, financial instruments) and liabilities (what is owed in mortgages, loans, etc.)

Two of the most unfortunates are EVANDER HOLYFIELD and MIKE TYSON. Today, their net worth is estimated at about $1 million each. In contrast, GEORGE FOREMAN is worth $250 million and tops the list. OSCAR DELA HOYA is worth about $175 million. FLOYD MAYWEATHER is estimated to have a net worth of $90. (His lavish lifestyle and penchant for luxuries question what could represent contingencies [taxes/legal expenses, etc.] that may reduce this amount.

MUHAMMAD ALI is worth $80 million compared to WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO's $30 million.

BOB ARUM and MICHAEL BUFFER are worth $200 million; FREDDIE ROACH is worth $20 million - the same as JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ.

MANNY PACQUIAO is worth $70 million. This is astonishing as it represents the shortest wealth accumulation time by any of the other boxers.

HERE is a complete list (in millions of dollars):
ZAB JUDAH, FERNANDO VARGAS – 8 ROY JONES JR. – 45
MIGUEL COTTO JR – 15 EVANDER HOLYFIELD, MIKE TYSON – 1
MUHAMMAD ALI – 80 MANNY PACQUIAO – 70
GEORGE FOREMAN – 250 SUGAR RAY LEONARD – 120
ANDRE BERTO – 12 ANTONIO MARGARITO – 15
JOE FRAZIER – 8 FELIX TRINIDAD – 30
BOB ARUM – 200 MARVIN HAGLER – 45
LARRY HOLMES – 18 WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO – 30
DAVID HAYE – 20 FREDDIE ROACH – 20
SUGAR SHANE MOSLEY – 35 JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ – 20
LENNOX LEWIS – 60 BERNARD HOPKINS – 40
OSCAR DELA HOYA – 175 FLOYD MAYWEATHER – 90
MICHAEL BUFFER – 200 DAVID DIAZ - 15

Pretty interesting Aqua.... Ali and Frazier really earned their's the hard way eh? punching bags at the end... Alot of these earnings were commercial earnings.
Foreman made a mint with the cooking hardware.
Of course the latter day fighters make much more per fight than the older fighters did...
I know Buffer rents his voice out at quite a sum per rental.
Actually,,, Manny makes pretty good dough in by American standards too.
Tough way to make a living though. Hear say most ex fighters cannot smell anything... nor can hear very well.
I grew up with old fighters.. (in my 20's) They all had bad eyes, bad noses and thick tongues..
Most were broke. Needless to say,, I bought lotsa drinks.

Michael Buffer is paid "millions" whenever he holds that microphone and say "Let's get ready to rumble!" Amazing isn't it?
Jim Lampley is no slouch either...he is worth about $16 mil!!!

Manny Pacquiao's 2010/2011 income has not yet been established but with all his other income and endorsements (and pending contract with HP) his net worth could easily top $100 million by year end! Not bad for a boy who once pounded the streets in slums in Manila.

It is pretty sad how great boxers in previous eras ended earned and spent their fortunes to live the rest of their lives in poverty. More tragic are those who lives ended prematurely (Gatti, Forest, Etc.).

Well, his counterpart in the UFC "IT'S TIME!" is Bruce Buffer! I bet he, too, is making a name for himself, as well making some delicious sum. He is Michael Buffer's half-brother!!!

Actually guys,,, speaking about how bad the old fighters had it.... my father would go to the boxing arenas on fight night. Many fighters back then would not show up to box..
For whatever reason. And as the old adage says "the show must go on"! well,,, the fighter that did show up would get in the ring... then the announcer would call for volunteers
from the audience to fight this guy... from what my mom said,,, my father volunteered many a time... of course he got knocked around pretty good.. but he was a good
boxer too.. but not a pro. He got $25 for his trouble. Hadda pay the rent and whatever else... he drove a taxi the rest of the time. He died young so i dont really remember
much about him. Just the stories i heard from mom and his family.
Speaking of the hurt and painful sport of boxing. I remember when O.J. was at USC, they asked him if football was his favorite sport as a youngster. He replied,
"no it wasnt, I
always wanted to be a boxer... I was doing pretty good as a young man, big, tall and strong for my age. Then one day I was in the gym and they said, O.J. ,,, box a little with
this skinny chicano kid that they wanted to see in action.... I said sure,,, poor kid looked malnutritioned but was tall.. needless to say,,, the kid promptly knocked me on
my ass and proceded to beat the boxing desire outta me!! I never went into the gym again..... O.J. said he would much rather take the lumps in football, than get knocked
on his ass again in the boxing ring!!! True Story!
Thats how rough and tough boxing is... and was in the old days...
