Michael Bisping beat Denis Kang at UFC 105 in Manchester, England.England's Michael Bisping will be stepping in to take on Wanderlei Silva when the UFC makes its Australian debut in February, a source confirmed to Sportsnet's Joe Ferraro.
It had been rumoured that Silva would be facing Yoshihiro Akiyama in a middleweight bout. Instead UFC 110 on Feb. 21 will feature the matchup originally scheduled for UFC 105 in Manchester, England, but scrapped after Silva pulled out due to surgery to remove scar tissue from his face.
Bisping is coming off a second-round TKO of Canadian Denis Kang earlier this month in his home town, while Silva is coming off a June loss to Rich Franklin in Germany in a bout fought at 195 pounds.
NOTES: Gabriel Gonzaga has pulled out of a scheduled fight against Junior dos Santos at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 because of a staph infection, according to Yahoo! Sports. Gonzaga might be replaced by Cain Velasquez, whose bout versus Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was called off because of a similar infection for Nogueira. ... Former welterweight champion Matt Serra will reportedly return to the Octagon at UFC 109 in Las Vegas and take on Frank Trigg. The Super Bowl-weekend show would be his first appearance since May, when he lost to Matt Hughes in a much anticipated grudge match.
