By Chris Williams: It’s not a good feeling when you see Freddie Roach gloating ahead of time about how his fighter Manny Pacquiao doesn’t have much of a chance of losing to 39-year-old Shane Mosley on May 7th. The fight already reeks of a cherry-picked mismatched between Pacquiao and a fighter that is turning 40 this year and hasn’t looked good in the ring in over two years. Roach is sky high about Pacquiao’s chances of winning the fight, saying “I don’t think there’s room for an upset but in boxing you never know.”

Roach should pumping up Mosley because he badly needs it so that people can see this a competitive fight instead of one where Mosley was picked just because he has a recognizable name to the casual – read: fans with a scant knowledge of the sport – boxing fans. Mosley has a chance but it’s so small it’s not even funny.

You just look at him in the Fight Camp 360 episodes and it’s hard to give him any chance in this fight. All I think of is how old Mosley looks compared to Pacquiao. I think this is a really bad idea for a fight because of all the casual boxing fans that will purchase it thinking it will be a competitive fight. Under the best circumstances, they’ll think Pacquiao is simply great because he’ll be dominating Mosley, one of the best fighters in boxing in the past 15 years.

However, if they’re fans who paid money hoping to be entertained, we might see a lot of angry fans who could feel burned by watching a mismatch. And the undercard won’t have enough interesting fights to make up for the main event not being thrilling because all there is on the undercard is Kelly Pavlik facing little known Alfonso Lopez, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. vs. an old Jorge Arce, little known Mike Alvarado vs. equally little known Ray Narth, Pier Olivier Cote vs. Aris Ambriz.

Ha, Roach and some peeps, never give anyone a chance against Pacman. Someday soon they will have a big surprise. They'll soon find out that "chit" happens in any sport. It's underdogs time..jmo Papito Vasquez's fight will be a good one to watch, hope Nonito will be watching this one. If he decides to invade the 122 kingdom, he'll have to face him.

I agree with Roachman... Too bad Mosley is too old or else it would be a great fight.. I saw Mosley's last fight and he slowed down a lot.. 2-3 years ago would have been a great show...

They both fought Margarito, Mosley ko him like nobody ever did. Pacman hit him with all he's got, so hard he fracture his face and could not put him out. That is probably the reason of this match, they want to see this 2 guys going at it. Age is important but condition together with desire and stamina can make an old man look good. We have to know good fights come when boxer match in styles, I believe that Pacman is perfect for Mosley. Maybe his performance in the last two fights weren't the best but they serve it's purpose.

I also have to agree with roach on this. The only reason I can think of making this fight is for measuring how well he does to how mosley did vs mayweather. As soon as the fight is over you see the press comparing the outcome. Then we will know who has the bragging rights.

Yer speaking on very general terms Fib... Of course everything comes to an end..... Roman Empire,,, Germany,,, Greece, Soviet Union,, Ali,,, Sugar Ray Robinson,, our lives,,, etc etc...
of course some day someone will beat Manny,,, thats life!!! nothing is forever.. but it won't be Mosley and it wont be Cotto... as much as you want it to be.
Manny is still the best pound per pound fighter in the world... until that inevitable day comes when someone beats him... which WILL someday come... he is still the best!
The only fighter that never got beat and will go on as the best ever at his division was Rocky Marciano.... 49 wins.. NO defeats!!!
Ya cant argue with perfection....
Stop comparing Margarito with everyone guy.... Mosley beat him badly,,,, but i heard Margarito weighed 200 pounds 2 weeks before Mosley... so many variables in fights...
you just cant compare. Margarito beat the crap outta Cotto... Cotto beat Mosley.... Mosley beat margarito.... etc etc.....
Everyone knows Mosely has no business in the ring with Manny.... Manny tossing him a bone fer shur.
"someday" is a very general word Fib,,,, "someday" is on everyone's menu!!!
As i recall,,, you were all over Juanma's bandwagon... i said,,,, someday someone is gonna expose his jaw... "someday" came.
as it did for Benitez and Gomez..... and i was a big fan of theirs.... that "someday" was called.... Salvador Sanchez!
Verdad? It happens to the best amigo.... the only man i see ever beating Manny in the "NEAR" future is Mayweather.... and thats a BIG MAYBE!!!
I agree with Aqua... i think Manny will call it quits very very soon! Nonito will take over.
Hey,, just my humble opinions here. For whatever they are worth.

Every fighter is different with different styles.. Mosley beat de La Hoya 2X.. Manny took the "pretty" out of him by giving him the whooping of his life and even retiring him.. But I still wont compare Manny and Mosley.. As Chris Berman says.. "That's why they play the game".. Who knows maybe the old man will have it that night and Manny wont.. But I doubt it.. lol.....

ha ha ha!!! i like you too Fib... you know yer stuff.. as you kin tell,,, i been around the boxing game for a long time..
I meant when someone beats Manny as being the champ... i know he has been beaten..
Hey Fib,,, I have Wilfredo Benitez autograph here someplace... I was in LV when he was training there for a fight...
Speaking of which... I was at Caesars Palace one time.. Roberto Duran came in to the dining area. It was a buffet style
restaurant... well,,, he came in with his entourage.. he was training there to fight some Irishman in Los Angeles....
Well,, he goes up to the food and starts sticking his hands in it and putting the food in his mouth!!!! no plate! Everyone in the restaurant
watching him.. finally the manager came and talked to him and his boys... course Roberto didnt speak or understand english at the time..
Well, his trainer tells him what the manager says... Roberto runs up to him and starts cursing him out very loudly in spanish!! Of course called
him a maricon y que se chingue su madre y que le va dar en la madre. etc etc.
Cops came in and took him and the boys out... he cursing the whole time they took him out... they hadda replace the food...
Was hilarious!!! I was about 25 ft from the whole thing..
Later i went to see him train.. what a workout!!!! Duran could hit the speedbag with his head and keep it going at a normal persons speed.
Then he would crouch down and jump rope that way...crouched down on his haunches.
Jumped in the ring and promptly beat the crap outta 3 sparring partners.. Guy was amazing!
Later he graciously gave autographs..... heaven only knows what he wrote... i dont think he could write... he just scribbled something on my paper..
I threw it away...looked like a kid had scribbled.
Seemed very nice just needed some table manners! ha ha ha!!!!
Anyway,,, nice sharing opinions on this forum... I enjoy it. Lets hope Manny and Shane put on a good show!!
Hope i didnt bore anyone with my Duran story... the guy was something.

Speaking of Mano de piedras Duran, the only one to put him on his @ss was a Rican named Esteban De Jesus who later killed a dude and ended up in jail till he died of aids. Very good fighter with a crazy head, we had a few. Another was El Chapo Rosario gone with the wind. :offtopic1: sorry.

Well,,, we wont even go into what Tommy Hearns did to manos de piedra...
That was a cruel knockout... fell face first..
Anyone remember?
Hearns was just too big and tall for Duran. Don't see how Leonard beat Tommy.
Never forget when Hearns went to LA and stiffed Pipino Cuevas with one right hand.
He fell face forward too... was out before he hit the canvas.
Pepino was champ then.
Sorry again... seems like one memory leads to another story..

I'm talking when he was young, fighting at 135 pounds, the first left hook that put him in the canvas. After that he went up in weight but he wasn't the same fighter. I remember the "no mas" with Leonard.

Fibroso, Bolivia, Rudee, Ramon......wow, you guys are boxing walking encyclopedias! I enjoy all your stories!!! Todo lo que ha quedado es un sinfín de buenos recuerdos.

I'd say one thing though. No matter what the past looked like, today, the Pacman sits on that lofty throne with all his boxing accomplishments (and others - but let's stay in perspective). I do not believe that he will go on fighting until he losses. I will bet balut and beer on that. He will retire atop his stature and leave boxing a champion many times over.

He will not be a Flash Elorde!

And you are right Rudee. Nonito Donaire is knocking at the door of opportunity to succeed Manny!

No doubt that Manny is a great fighter who had great opportunities and things put into place to benefit his career. But even with all his accomplishments, with all due respect, neither he will be a Pancho Villa......... 73 wins (22 by knockouts), 5 losses, 4 draws, and 23 no decisions (a common result in boxing’s early days). Villa was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994 , died at the age of 24.

He sat down and reeled off some great stories... he told me about all the actresses he dated... and of course about
the beating Carmen Basilio gave him... ha ha ha!!!
